Unwanted, unfortunate, and unheard community

It has been 8 days since the creation of the ant-'feast chat removal' thread. This has been the most popular thread I have seen on the PvP forums since I started PvPing in FFXIV.

It has been a month since the thread about getting earrings as rewards again and again. It was even moved from general discussion to PvP, unlike the minion thread.

In just 7 days, the anti-'top 10 exclusive minion' thread had actions taken towards it, and responses given to it.

Am I alone in feeling completely ignored by SE most of the time? Even messages saying things like: "Please look forward to it" or "We don't want to do that because of x, y, and z." would feel better than the silent treatment I feel like we get.

I really love this game, I really love this community, and I feel like a lot of members of it have great suggestions about how to improve FFXIV PvP. Even now, the feeling of me about to click "Submit New Thread" is soul-crushing. Knowing that it probably won't make a difference, no matter how many members of the community feel the same way.

Sometimes they do respond to things out of the blue after a long time has passed. Maybe they are waiting to implement the feature and see how well it goes first before they consider user feedback on it which is premature pre-release. I was interested in the chat being replaced by strategy commands idea because I've seen rage people in chat too commonly when I used to play feast, but I'm willing to accept it's a mistake if it doesn't improve things. See how it goes.

What do you expect them to say on the matter?

"Sorry guys, we heard you, but we feel this step is necessary because you're notorious douchebags." ?

I mean, they'd phrase it a lot more politely, but that's what it boils down to in the end >_>

They do respond to stuff. If they didn't there wouldn't be any rewards for light party feast right now, SCH/SMN would still be losing their Aetherflow stacks to Monks, WAR/SMN/MCH (though this job was hit pretty lightly) wouldnt have gotten nerfed, we wouldnt have had changes to matchmaking/rank tiers etc. We are just very low priority resulting in extremely delayed responses to our concerns. They do typically seem to acknowledge having heard most of our concerns in PVP though even if they dont always do anything about it.

I'm certain that the problem which OP is stating is that there seems to be a double standard. PvE players are receiving responses and positive changes while PvP players get shafted.

Sure, they make balance changes eventually. It does take wayyyy too long (3 seasons with mnk and mch in their current state? 2 seasons of old blm? Seriously it's way too slow), but at least they are trying.

I know you must have had terrible experiences with pvp Zojha, but forcing a feature on everyone isn't a lot of people's idea of the best solution. It could be an option in the menu, some people use chat strategically, but that isn't what this post is about. There is another thread for that. Yes, I believe that they should tell us the reason they are removing chat, and why this is the only option they thought up.


Radio silence is never appreciated and it is very disrespectful. Look at nintech (sp? Pokemon Go people), they didn't talk to their community for weeks and the community was outraged. Then they came out and said, "Sorry, we can't implement this because of resources, we are trying our hardest." Suddenly, people weren't so mad. Sure, they weren't getting what they wanted, but at least they were treated with compassion. That's what this post is about.

More than likely they just want SE to acknowledge the problem. Just a little "we know, and we're doing whatever to fix it" would be alright. Just something to let them know that the issue is not being ignored.

I can sympathize as I feel the same way about White Mage's current state, and sometimes I'm accused of spamming topics, but it's really just to let SE know, if they don't already, that there is an issue and that some people out there care about it.

More precisely: People want SE to acknowledge their issue as a general problem. And why? Because problems are supposed to be resolved.
Plainly put, they want change, they want to prevent the stupid restriction and if it can't be stopped anymore, they want it gone ASAP.

I don't believe for a moment that people can't "understand" why SE considered the chat ban and want them to explain. The arguments have been laid out multiple times by multiple people by now, hearing them yet again from yet another person isn't going to change the arguments. That's not what it's all about. People want official support for their cause and thus a foothold in the internal debate that caused the chat-ban in the hopes of change.

And that's why I made that mocking comment - I don't believe an answer that doesn't give that support is going to make the people against the chat-ban happy or quell the argument. In fact, people would feel even more ignored, because even though they were heard, their concerns are brushed off. And if they give that support but it amounts to nothing, people cry foul again because "false promises!". No way they can realistically win there.

That said, I'm fairly certain that "eventually", someone from SE will come and say a few words on the matter anyway, for the better or worse. Most likely regurgitating things that have been said already, only with official flavor this time. But considering how niché PvP is, I'd not expect a reply anytime soon. File it as yet another reason why increasing the regular playerbase is crucial.

Again, you are very focused on one specific aspect of my topic, there was a reason I had multiple examples in there. I also did bring up the earrings vs minion topic. There is a double standard, there is censorship, and there is radio silence. None of these things can be argued against when you look a the earring thread. It got as much traction as the minion thread, where even "non-PvP" people agreed, until some mod moved it to the PvP forum.

Sorry that I used the chat-ban as one example because you seem to be very hung up on that one specific point, but the thread blew up with a lot of likes rather quickly. That many likes, views, and replies in such a short amount of time, isn't something that happens on this sub-forum. A thread where most of the outspoken members of the community actually agree upon something is incredibly rare on this forum. Something that anomalous, even in a niche community, should be responded to quickly.

They could just have nothing to report atm, and like Zojha said they might just be waiting to see how it goes after implementation. atm all they would really accomplish is stirring the nest again. I mean the only plausible response they can give now is "were going through with it and seeing how it plays out" and lets be honest that isn't going over well with those that do not support this change. On the other hand the change can go live and then they will have actual discussion on the system going on and something to talk about that they might actually have the intention to change.
