[Cash Shop Idea] Game Time Token

FFXIV Tokens provide players with a convenient, secure way to exchange gil for game time directly through the in-game Market.

Visit the Market and use your hard-earned gil to purchase one of the FFXIV Tokens another player has put up for sale. Once the Token arrives in your in-game mailbox, right-click it to add it to your bag, then right-click again and 30 days of game time will be added to your account.

WoW already did it and it's awesome.

Remember, the gil which bots put into the marker inflates it. If other players put them up, the gil used to purchase them would have already been in circulation.

I agree that full player control of prices would be risky which is why i vouch for a semi regulated system a la WoW where the prices are continually generated based on supply and demand.

When the botters realize they cant compete theyll go away. In my experience all bots disappeared when this system went live in WoW

I'm all for the idea but the origin shouldn't be cash shop. Having a method to extend subscription through in-game currency's an idea I'd support.
But not to benefit cash shoppers.

There's no other way this can be done. SE is a company looking for profit, they can't give you free game time just because you have some gil, a sub token means someone else is paying for your sub and SE still gets money, therefore they don't lose money (if anything, they would gain from this).

Sub tokens have to come from other players, not from SE itself, there's no ifs or buts.

How much did WoW's RMT problem decrease when they added this?

I want to see more info before I make a decision on how I feel.

I played WoW for a bit during the 3.1 content drought, RMT spam was non-existent and the market is pretty stable, you can't buy the best gear from the market (just like FFXIV) so there isn't a balance issue if someone was to obtain extra gil by selling sub tokens.

Any purchased Cash-Shop items being sellable in-game is a form of RMT. Real money is used to gain gils in game. The only difference being SE would be collecting the money instead of a third party, but the consequences are still the same for the in game market.

That's why I'm glad Cash-Shop items are currently bound to the buyer and have a limited effect on the ingame economy.

(Now if one thinks RMT is a good thing, then he should simply ask SE to sell Gils directly from the Cash-Shop)

First you have to understand why RMT is bad, and it's not bad "just because people say it's bad".

Gil sellers use bots to obtain gil, SE has no control over them as they create hundreds of accounts for this, you suddenly have a huge amount of illegally obtained gil in the economy, more gil than players wold get by themselves, this drives up prices and ruins the economy, not to mention that this doesn't benefit the publisher in any way.

A sub token would not involve bot-generated gil for the most part, SE can control the price of the sub token just by controlling supply and demand of items, this has a different impact on the economy and it's an impact SE can directly control, and the company would also gain extra profit from this.

A sub token has very few cons compared to 3rd party RMT.

i would agree to this if SE will implement this just like how CCP did it in EvE with the PLEX system.

Or why not just gift-able time tokens? We can pretty much already do that with time cards anyway but having it on the mog station can be pretty nice too.
