Generally speaking for single target:
Tier 1: BLM and MNK
Tier 2: SMN, DRG and NIN
Tier 3: BRD, MCH
edit: You can look at fflogs to see where specific jobs fall for specific instances to get a better idea of how they should perform by looking at the statistics for the fight instead of rankings. I suggest looking at 75th percentile if you want a reasonable idea instead of looking at top dps as those ones are often stacked to get a top 10 parse, not for raid utility.
Well this all comes up to what you are fighting.
Do you have to move or not. Because that Changes the order on jobs like BRD MCH SMN BLM.
If you don't have to avoid attacks. I believe the order is. MNK,DRG,NIN for melee And SMN BLM MCH BRD for Range. For rare numbers. But if the job isn't play perfectly a great BRD with a good RNG can out DMG other jobs with bad RNG.
If you just going by single target dps capability, the best way would be to go by what the dps requirements of stone sky sea are. Its currently MNK>BLM>DRG>NIN>SMN>BRD>MCH. Of course that's a silly way to decide on a job.
With the damage being heavily DoT based and the instant Ruin 2 skill, SMNs have better mobility of the two casters.
That said, a Black Mage that can find a safe spot and keep their rotation going will out damage pretty much everyone. It's just their glass cannon nature and how detrimental breaking their casts is.
Love how ppl think just Bc one DPS can push top, that all playin that job can _-_, Iv see many job that ppl are saying or calling weak out DPS other that are the so called top.. And pushing over 3k damage it sad.
There only about 100-300 damage diff at endgame if gear right and played right, just play what you like most.
Not counting Brd/MCH they can't help being 500-600 lower. That how SE mad them.
In my experience, everyone has a dps that naturally fits their own personal style, and you are far better to go with that, and what you find fun, than a dps that is technically able to put out more dps.
You'll always do more dps being exceptional at a class that fits you better personally, than mediocre at a "better" dps class.
