Elusive Jump Usage

Disclosure: I dont main DRG but Ive been using the class recently so correct me if Im wrong in any parts here

Now, most of the time if theres an AoE on the ground and I need to dodge, I can just walk away from it since theres really no use for me to use the skill other than "looking cool"

However, when I got the hang of weaving in "Jump" thats when it all changes since the lock with this skill is no laughing matter, it is lethal if the boss decides to put an AoE under you so I decided to use Elusive Jump but to no avail, there does not seem to be any considerable difference when using it.

I was always under the impression that Elusive Jumps are DRGs "OH SH*T" button if they get in a prickly situation.

It has a long CD and other than shedding half your enmity which rarely happens unless you have a tank that does not know what theyre doing, I dont see any useful applications for it

For the vet dragoons out there or just the vets, care to enlighten me on this one

The few uses I've seen for Elusive Jump is its aggro reducing factor, so you use it if you have hate, and to position yourself. You can use it in a pull to position yourself to the boss, or use it as a gap closer when you had to move away for a certain mechanic and need to go back to the boss asap.

Which seems to be the whole point of the thread. When is best to use it. Do share your wealth of knowledge.

dodging aoes that are easy to rime out of, loosing hate, going on strike on your raid buddies and flying into ohko walls, and impressing people in the various cities.

See heres your issue about teleportation skills like elusive, aetherial manipulation, sukuchi, even plunge in some instances:

as with all jumps, your character is actually position locked to where they were, untill theyre done doing the land animation. Last second execution of these evasive manuevers will get you hit, if your reaction time is low. You gotta understand this, and 2.0 drg learned well, when all the jumps were screwed like this with longer animation locks, that youre not at point b untill you can freely move again. i think maybe elusive could use a shorter animation time so its more awesome, but if not i am ALL for cutting its cd by half or more, even. Its a great skill to reduce enmity, it also cuts you out of status effects like HEAVY and bind. so go drg, get hit on your mount, dismount and elusive that crap off you, its good for pvp too if you do that, its like a weak tempered will, crossed with a sexy back jump flip, crossed with an enmity reducer.

You should use it to maintain higher uptime on bosses, some examples I can think of include prey in a5s (you keep hitting him until the very last seconds before you use elusive jump to survive the dash), single drill in a6s (elusive then spineshatter back to the boss), aoe marker in nidhogg ex after the adds phase (keep hitting until just before it drops the aoe puddle, then spineshatter back to the boss), bombs in a7s or just returning to the boss after doing jails, padlocks, adds or anything.

Basically during anything you need to move away for, you can reduce your dps loss by using elusive and spineshatter or dragonfire, and of course sometimes as an ohshit button to get out of aoe after getting animation lock from jumps.

You've kinda hit on my concern about the whole thing. Given the animation lock, and not actually moving until you've been placed, is it really any faster than just running back? I guess probably is more useful if you're not using legacy camera, with the backpedaling. It really does feel more useful for enmity/status drop, the movement is just a thing to balance that.

I think it actually moves your hitbox during the animation, hence why you can't "jump over" aoe puddles without getting the dmg/dot/debuff using your jump skills.

The enmity drop seems quite useless imo, where would you even use it? During the start of the fight you can't really use it until you build up aggro, unlike quelling strike used by casters, and by that time you build aggro, if you steal it from the tank then the tank is doing something terribly wrong. Mid fight you shouldn't be able to catch up with the tank's aggro lead from their opener and occasional use of enmity combo even in dps stance, so it's kinda useless randomly using it.

If by any chance both of the tanks die and you're holding aggro, then yes it might be somewhat helpful when one tank tries to get the boss aggro back after they get raised, but any decent tank should be able to easily grab the boss from a dps using tank stance and enmity combo considering how much enmity multiplier they have. Also if you use elusive before they provoke the boss, it will just switch to the next dps/healer, so you need to make sure the tank has provoked.

My favorite use of elusive jump was against the eyeball in WoD. He binds one person and puts a circle centered on them, and everyone inside the circle takes damage, more for each person in it. DRG gets bound, everyone runs away. DRG uses elusive and chases down the runners, killing half a dozen people.
