I've had to rewrite this seven times due to the character limit, so bare with me if this feels disjointed/it doesn't flow well. I tried my best. =(
Now, with 13 jobs to gear, and 7 role gear sets after the initial set of AF gear, it's clear that 450 is no longer an acceptable cap. A full weaponless side costs 495/825/495/375/825/495 tomes each for one side.
3,510 tomes for just 1 side, no weapon /7 weeks.
Multiply that by 7 (5DoW/2DoM) and it's 24,570 tomes, now divide that by 450 for a total of 54.6 weeks to gear up every job w/o accessories; even higher if we get AF gear;nearly 2 years.
More than a year to gear up all our jobs with RELEVANT gear is insane.
It's simply unacceptable.
We require more ways to gear up that don't consist of Savage, story raid, or tomes, or the cap need to be doubled, if not tripled, because as it current stands it's just not worth use more than one to two jobs, which I am certain many would like to do.

So the optimal way to gear up many jobs is to use a mixture of tome, raid and crafted equipment, selecting the pieces you want based on their secondary stats. When you supplement the tomestones with other options you can gear up quite fast. More options are always welcome though, like say Grand Companies offering gear of a relevant item level when new ranks are addedQuote:

They already have increased the cap. Long ago at launch the weekly cap was lower, I think it was set to 400 maybe 375, I forget it was awhile ago. I just remember thinking it was gonna take 3 weeks to get my +1 relic. At the time thavnarian mist cost 300 of the weekly tomes and you needed 3 of them to upgrade your relic weapon. Take it for what it is. Also do you even have the inventory for all the pieces for all jobs?

There's plenty of space if you have one set for each class, and I am the kind of player who desynths/converts/turns in old gear the moment I am able to, so for me it's a non-issue; even as an avid RPer with multiple retainers full of glamour and crafting mats. You have just enough space to hold a gear set for all 13 jobs should you wish to do so, and when they are all 60; as I've confirmed with a close friend, you have even more space if you go for the likes of Yafaemi or Lore gear as that totals only 7 slots in your main gear sections.Quote:

The lack of options in 3.0 had more to do with the fact that SE simply messed up the crafted gear. It was too low iLvl to make it worthwhile for anyone other than the absolute top raiding statics, not to mention how bothersome it was to even get the mats for that gear. If they don't mess with the crafting system in 4.0, and stick with crafted gear that's worth going for, then the expansion will definitely see a better gearing up system from the get-go.Quote:

I don't believe there's an issue here at all. The majority of content only requires gearing as high as the previous tier - which is unlocked and easily obtained. The only reason you really need current tier gear is for progression raiding - and at that level the majority of people tend to specialise in 1 job in order to optimise their DPS (Occasionally switching jobs within' their role, Brd > Mch, depending on the encounter - but the gear still works.)
There's plenty of gearing options being thrown at the players this expansion. Just because you can't get BiS on every job every patch doesn't mean there's an issue. -

And, as others already pointed out: There are plenty of options to gear up. Not sure if I'm an exception but I'm not even capping anymore because the jobs I actually like to play - all three tanks, bard and scholar (so, basically all the healers, because gear is shared) - are decently geared. I've got tomes laying around and no use for them. Granted, I'm not ilvl240 in all of those but even with the cap its really not much of an issue to gear up multiple jobs -
