Dev Request: Allow Us To Preview Our Character

Hello all,

I was looking through this thread, and realised how many people including myself change their character.

While we have different backgrounds and lighting, sometimes it's not easy to tell what your character will look like in game, especially things such as height.

My request is to be able to 'test' our characters in a preview world, similar to the tutorial where you are not allowed to run past certain points. This will allow us to run around, try out emotes, compare our character to NPC's and just have a better way of seeing if we like our character.

I am also aware this isn't something of high priority. Just something to consider, maybe in the future when they add a new race.

Edit - thank you for the information about the change to the cutscene skipping. This does make things easier, but I would still like this implemented as a quality of life feature. Thanks again :)

I'd love it if we were able to test the battle voices too. Sometimes voices sound perfect with emotes and then you realize it's actually terrible when you play a melee/brd/mch job.

Omg this would be so great, i recently race changed to an Au Ra and the one thing that bugged me was that the lighting was lacking...it wasn't a good representation of what your character might look like ingame...especially concerning the skin tone, as some tan/brown color might have a red tinge to the skin tone in game...while in the CC it might have looked nice.

Just create a character on a different world. thats what i do.

Or better yet we can just download the character creator and do the same...but its not updated with the latest hairstyles, so your idea is the best....it just never crossed my mind to make a character on another world to test out...then save the settings templete...i feel like an idiot. >:(

I want to test /all/ of my glamours on a race before I commit. And I have...a lot of glamours. In fact I'm needing to rent yet another extra retainer because I have so many glamours.

Here's a idea:

It's kind of hard to do, but if you have the means. Use a retainer fantasia on you retainer and then use the retainer permit to place one on the lawn of a house (either your house or fc house). You could glamour it however you want. You could stand it there and look at it and have people stand around it and etc, even pose it how you want. It will look exactly how you will look and will be out in the "real" world and weather effects, etc.

I know this idea isn't great for most people to do. But, maybe it will help out someone.

Yeah sadly some of us don't have a home to call our own...just yet at least lol, but it is another viable option for those that do, thanks for sharing!.

I do this as well. When I created my benchmark template for Au Ra, I tested it in game and realized the skin tone was too dark for my liking. I also took the opportunity to test out battle voices and emotes since there was nothing to look up at the time. On that note, there are videos that show off voices for battle and emotes, but outside of that I just make a test character some where and run around whacking things.

Edit: But yes, a better way to preview would be nice to have.

To OP: I think they should add more preview areas at the very least, maybe the housing zones? When I was creating my alt, I was aiming for a more light Hispanic color, but ended up with a yellow undertone. Thankfully, she's an alt, so I just accepted my mistake, but I thought the tone was correct when I was in the preview screen.
