Will DRK scale well with gear?

So DRks use magic. We don't have int gear nor is it worth melding int just for single-target use. But both AoE aggro generation skills are magic and as all classes gear, they will not get anymore powerful while all other classes start doing more AoE damage, and we have no spell speed so its always going to be a flat 2.5 seconds between every unleash/ drain?

Im just curious about how drk performs as gear scales, especially when we mostly get or MP from getting hit, losing aggro at the wrong time could make getting aggro back difficult.

It just seems that the enmity increase all tanks saw will be helpful, since our 130 attack magic potency might be okay now, but when gear is at 230 or 260, without a buff to magic specifically, i feel like we'll fall behind. Also means the effect salt the earth has on any fight will be reduced.

Im not sure on the maths and this was just a thought, but would like to know what other tanks here think.

hm. i am doing much more magic damage in full i200 than naked... so, it seems the magic damage scales from str and vit. at least you WILL make more damage with better gear.

I asked something similar in another post a while ago. They're all skilled off Strength before 3.2, now its Strength and Vitality. Even if it uses MP and deals unaspected damage, its still modified by Skill speed, det and crit. Maybe Piety if you're having MP issues but I'm not aware of Darks using piety outside early leveling to learn resource management.

The damage of the DRKs skills is based from attack power not magic attack. Attack power is based on Str/Vit not Int, so your damage will scale up with better gear like all other tanks.
The type of damage is in no relation to the damage stats.

Do not confuse "deals magic damage" with "scales from INT". They are not the same.

skill speed doesnt seem to work, since my unleash and abysseal drain and unmend are all 2.5 recast where every other skill is 2.38

I see, just got onto the game and tested my unmend clothed and unclothed, huge difference. shoulda tested before i posted but was unavailable yet very curious

Unmend and Unleash use Spell Speed for their GCD usage, case in point:

Current gear (565 Skill Speed, 354 Spell Speed)
Hard Slash GCD: 2.42s
Unmend/Unleash GCD: 2.50s

With a small bump in Spell Speed (565 Skill Speed, 395 Spell Speed)
Hard Slash GCD: 2.42s
Unmend/Unleash GCD: 2.48s

And with nothing but Anima Weapon so base Skill/Spell Speeds (354 Skill and Spell Speeds)
Hard Slash GCD: 2.50s
Unmend/Unleash GCD: 2.50s

Results: Pretty sure Unleash and Unmend use Spell Speed

Also, all MP returns from DRK abilities are based on your level, not your MP pool so Piety is a big no-go. However ALL DRK damage is based off your attack power plus the relevant secondaries regardless of whether the ability in question deals physical or magic damage.
