id like to see cross class skills removed/changed for next expansion

give casters their own version of swiftcast/protect. give dps their own version of b4b/ir. this will opens the way to make it more unique to each job (maybe nin's b4b also makes ninjustus stronger, mnk b4b makes gl lasts longer?)
a lot of jobs are already pretty full on keybinds anyway, just make 4 of the 5 skill we get on the way to 70 the replacement for the common cross class skills with lvl 70 skill being the brand new one

Here's a thought. You can get specialis job (and only 3 of them) but you get some specialist skills to them that badly emulate the common cross class skills. And you can only go to ex-dungeons and other new content in your specialist jobs. And change of the specialist job takes weeks worth of whatever's the highest tome at the time.

In case someone doesn't notice, yeah that was meant as sarcasm.

This would mean people who did all the work for getting the skill first Barely get any new mechanics on level 70.
The cross class skills are not needed when you only play casually. As soon as you want to do harder stuff, it is to be expected that you've got to do some work to get your better skills. Plus cross skilling gives you nice bonuses for leveling another class, besides the ones you should have anyway like swiftcast as healer.
It's not that much work. Once you've got a level 60 you level pretty fast anyway. And getting to know other classes mechanics makes you a better player anyway.

The ultimate point of cross class skills is to get you to sample other classes and potentially broaden your horizons by doing so. As SE wants to encourage playing multiple classes on one character I don't see the point in removing this system. Especially seeming if you do the Novice training you get 30% bonus on levels below 30 with the ring, on top of all the other bonuses you get now.

Eitherway, I'd like for them to move away from cross class skills, and instead give the current jobs new skills that feel a bit more individualized but serve the same purpose. Their overall numbers could be tuned to make up for the loss of abilities like raging strikes or blood or blood, they'd have other means of TP management aside from invigorate, and a swiftcast that would themantically match the healers (because twirling a book/astroglobe looks silly)

There are some exceptions (B4B is level 34, and while the process isn't long, its atrocious to be a pre-28 lancer), and the way it is now, you're essentially forced to pick up some key abilties (specifically provoke) if you want to have any shot at an endgame fight. While the game has a focus on being able to as any job, it shouldn't be forced to that degree. At the same time, it doesn't add much depth to job designs and it's a textbook example of illusion of choice, especially when given some cross class skills are straight up useless (such as skull sunder on MNK, DRG and PLD). Me having an understand of DRG also does not help me play a MCH better. It just doesn't. It helps me understand how a DRG plays so I can understand what people are talking about, it does not help me improve my performance as a MCH, or even as another melee for having experience that's exclusive to a DRG

They could accommodate the problem of people who levelled jobs they don't care about for cross class abilities (though I personally did this and don't mind) by having the originals get 'upgraded' when you do your skill quests, permanently closing one of your cross class slots and giving you a new, improved version of the original which completely replaces it for all practical purposes. Don't have it? There are ways to deal with this such as letting that player trade in tomes/gil/annoying specialist crafted items/whatever to skip the step. Perhaps some abilities could require more than one skill, e.g. RS + B4B giving you a combined version tailored to your class.

In truth I think the idea is a good one as some of my classes can probably squeeze in a few more abilities while others feel completely crushed by the number of skills already in the game. I'd play a lot more efficiently if I wasn't juggling similar, not-very-strategic-anyway buffs within the limitations of the interface.

No. Sorry, but that is a horrible idea. There is a very popular MMO out there that did just that and every single class lost its class identity.
So go out there, level a class that can do what you need, and get over it. Cross-class actions work perfectly as they are and I hope they won't mess with that. Every job feels unique that way.
They are great because a) character development b) getting you to play the game and try other classes/jobs (so you learn more about what others might play, what a crazy thing, huh?!) c) rewards for effort d) class/job identity

I don't see how my MCH having raging strikes and HE makes it any more different/unique from a BRD (job parallels aside). It takes away from skill pools that the job could have had. Instead of raging strikes, MCH could have gotten another form of damage buff for their turret, or not have an eqvuilant of raging strikes, have their potencies tuned accordingly, or get a different ability to level it out.

Agree with OP. It's about time to ditch the cross class ability system and just give the classes the various abilities and cooldowns or just adjust their damage accordingly to compensate.
