Low server population.. yet SE wants to be stingy?

I will be getting ps4 for my bday. I have been subscribed to FFxiv for 2 years- even participated in the re-launch beta. I have ARR and Heavenward. My BF and I are daily players. So why is it I have to spend another $100 on the game and expansion again.There needs to be a long time player transfer for free thing.. I was so stoked that I am getting a ps4. The load times on ps3 effect gameplay I cant do hunts- even using the wedding ring. I am always the last one loaded in a dungeon even though I have CSs turned off. Had to skip most CSs for the game to avoid hate or simply get left behind.

As someone on a dying server, can SE really afford to lose long time players in this situation- it will take me 6m to a year to resub and get the game on p4 :[

Any FFxiv players out there who stopped playing because they needed to re-buy it? Or am I alone in this because that seems to be my only option, for the next year at least..

There was a free upgrade program that ran for quite awhile, but it ended in April of this year.

the base game is 20 dollars, and the expac 40. as for the "long time player" thing, that would have to first be cleared thru sony, as they wouldnt be getting anything out of it.

Doesn't seem unreasonable to me.. They are different platforms you have to buy a copy of the game for the platform you wish to use.. I just switched from PC to ps4. I did snag a recent sale through gamestop but... At max cost.. ARR is like 20 bucks and HW is 40.... Where does this 100 figure come from?

Honestly, its their fault for releasing on ps3 and not waiting for 4 when it was known to be around the corner. Ps3 players got shafted.
They wanted more console customers though so it is what it is. Its always about money. If the really cared, accounts wouldnt be console/pc locked and you could play from anything that could run the game.

Is server population really low though?

To be honest here, you dont have to rebuy anything. You can still play on the PS3.

Also, they did have a pretty long upgrade campaign for the PS3 to PS4 upgrade, and iirc even extended it for a bit.

As a long time player of FXIV (playing since Dec 2010) I can tell you that numerous emails were sent out at the time, while the upgrade campaign was underway. It also took place from April 11, 2014 to April 1, 2015 - almost a full year. I will note that even if you had upgraded at the time, it would have rendered your PS3 copy useless UNTIL you had a PS4 to play the game on. Even then you would have had to buy the expansion for the PS4.

edit: The base game + expansion for the PS4 isn't 100.00. SE is selling it for 59.99. It's possible that you could find it cheaper online, or on sale in the coming weeks.

It's Sony. For consoles Sony/Microsoft license a game for their console and they get a cut of every game sold, maybe of the sub too. Why would Sony want a player who doesn't pay them anything.

It's this way for the Mac client, the Steam client, PC client, and also the PS3 and PS4 clients. XI was the same iirc.

Invest in a solid state drive for your ps3. Alternately invest in one of PS4 or you will not be impressed with load time difference.
