Retainers are basically the banks of the game, but they could use some improvements.
1. Allow us to discard items directly from the retainers inventory.
2. Allow us to back up to the retainer select menu without having to reselect the bell.
3. Allow us to post items from the retainers inventory directly to the market.
None of these would be too difficult to implement, I honestly dont know why it wasnt already implemented, but this would make dealing with retainers much much easier.
I kind of dread opening my retainers currently.

As mentioned, #3 is already available, but I agree with the OP that #1 and #2 would really help.
I'd also like to see the retainer's greeting and farewell messages moved from the NPC dialog window, where we have to acknowledge them each time, to an overhead chat bubble that's echoed in the chat box (like FATE and duty NPCs sometimes have). -
