Personal Loot

Just spit balling an idea i had while on the road to work. How would anybody feel about personal loot?

For those who don't know, in WoW they introduced Personal Loot I think in the tail end of Mists of Pandaria (No idea, I quit the game after the first 3 months of Pandaria and returned for the last three months), but instead of having the players collect tokens at the in dungeons and in raids, instead each player would be given their own separate loot table, synced to their current spec which had a chance to reward them usable gear or just some gold.

Using XIV Example: I am running World of Darkness as a healer and we the Eye. All I get is some gil while the other healer in my group gets the Healing Pants. Second boss, I get some gil, and the other healer gets some gil. Third boss, I get healing robe, other healer gets healing robe.

The idea, basically to minimize the effects of RNGesus. There is still RNG in place that would mean you may not get the gear you want on your first run, but if said gear does eventually drop, you won't have to roll against someone else.

It could be turned off or on by raid leaders, though it was on by default for roulettes.

Again, just spitballing, but I would think this could be used to easy up on the amount of tomes we get.

I think the token system is far better than personal loot, but if it was the current system or personal loot, you'd bet I'd choose persona loot. I went for weeks and weeks in WoW and never saw the belt drop though, so I hope they start using tokens in almost all content. Eliminates RNG entirely.

If they decide to change anything about the loot in 24-man raids, I hope they'd put in something like Alexander Normal. Instead of spending forever trying to get a specific item, you just roll for items that can be traded in for the piece you want/need (hopefully more than one chest piece drop a month, though >.<).

While good in thought/theory it would push people away from the content sooner so when newer people are up to that point they are sitting in que for ages such as they are now for 2.xx content. What would really suck is you and another healer are after the last piece (different) and you both keep getting the message you can not receive this item due to having it while each other could of lotted on it and go on their merry way.

Personal loot was one of the worst things to happen to WoW.

To elaborate on the tomes a bit. When made more mainstream in WoW, Blizz said that the idea was because while tokens served the purpose of rewarding you for actually doing the content, it still felt bad to do a raid and and never see the item you need drop or worse, see it drop multiple times but never win the roll for it. The Tokens alieviated that a little, but the issue more or less remained.

For XIV, right now we have Poetics, (unless I stop getting poetics when I friggin start using my level 60 jobs *grumble*grumble*), Law, and Esoterics. As far as I can gather, Poetics are useless post 50, but you still get a metric asston of them, with Law and Esoterics being the normal. Personally I'd just remove Poetics but I'm not a developer, but let's say you go ahead and remove both Poetics and Law, and instead made the Poetic and Law gear drop from dungeons via normal and personal loot. Adjust the drop rates accordingly. Esoterics could remain as they are a means of allowing progression in Alexander, but even then you could make them drop from just the daily roulette or the Alexander raids (again, not a developer. I'm assuming costs for things, cap and the like would have to change.).

Yeah that's really the only big issue with it I could see. Unless they changed the drop % to abysmal numbers for personal loot, people would be able to gear far faster. It could be like a trade off: Turn on personal loot and if an item drops, its is 100% something you can use. But now it only has like a 5% (not a developer) drop rate. Or something.

But yeah, even at the source material, Blizz admitted that without tokens to farm, there was almost no reason to go back into a dungeon the gear it offered was obtained.

I'd only be for personal loot if it gave us a token that we could exchange for any piece of armor and weapon of our choosing. Preferably with only needing 2-4 per piece.

As long as it's more than 1 item per 8 people. It should be 3-4 drops per group at the minimum

I say no to personal loot, particularly the way you describe it. With the current loot system we can collect gear for our secondary classes while we're running dungeons to level, or if gear drops that you already have, but someone else wants it for a class they have leveled to that point but is undergeared. For example, I've been doing a lot of runs of the expert roulette with my MCH for ESO. The MCH gear drops from the expert dungeons are completely useless to me, and if I was only given gear that fits my current class, I would either be passing on everything or having to go through the trouble of selling it for GC Seals or minute amounts of gil. As is though, I have been able to go ahead and get most of the gear from these dungeons for my SCH and DRK when I hit 60 with them, thus cutting out hours of grinding to fill in the slots that I don't have LAW gear for. I've also kept a stockpile of quite a bit of gear for other such classes I plan to level, by collecting the gear that other players don't need for their current class, so that my future classes will be better equipped. Meanwhile, those other players can be doing the same, collecting the gear that I consider useless to me, but that they might have a use for in the future. By introducing a personal loot system as you describe, then after a few runs of a dungeon, running it becomes even more tedious because you know you can get nothing of value from it besides the roulette reward or exp if you're below 60. And if you implement personal loot, but with the same drop chances as the chests currently have for any role's gear, then you'll simply be left with a lot of situations where players will get something useless to them, but that other players in the party could have made good use of......

They can't remove poetics because its the highest currency available for base game owners who haven't upgraded to HW yet.
