It's kinda pointless content is my only guess, plus we have centurio hunt marks that are basically the same idea now and actually give something kinda useful.
Same reason we haven't got more armoury chest space, character data limitations.
Daily hunt bills are your new hunting log entries.
They probably felt killing 3 mobs for 2mil xp was too overpowered.
My guess is the lack of enough mobs at any given level? There is very little overlap between the various class' hunting logs. I don't think they had enough mobs for level 50, enough for level 51, enough for 52, etc. to avoid having significant overlap this time around. That's part of the problem with not having enough levels in a level cap increasing expansion.
The mobs wouldn't probably give many exp anyways. I guess FATEs and dungeons are enough, plus the daily hunt marks provide us with reasons to revisit areas. :)
A few reasons, I believe.
1) Like Twilite stated before, the amount of experience it would give you would be ridiculous.
2) As Dragonslayer45 suggested, new hunts mixes things up a bit.
3) It might not fit with the lore as well, since your hunt log was originally tied to the lore. You were supposed to be killing hunts to prove your worth to your guildmaster or to "understand the ways" of your job. That doesn't make as much sense with the new jobs.
4) New jobs already start at level 30, exactly halfway through the leveling process. If we were given a hunting log that operated like the first, people would level the jobs too quickly. SE uses lockouts to lengthen play time.
Jobs never got hunting logs, just classes.
And because we didn't get any new classes...
