Got this nice Idea for Astrologian !

So i tought alot of ppl are saying Astro cant compare to Whm or sch well that might be right but what if We got a Skill/bar pop up when we use Draw that way we could actually pick the card that fits the fight best and that way AST might actualy get usefull in raids and stuff i really enjoy the job! i have never liked to use healing Class/job in any game but astro got me and i hope they do something with it :D just my tought tho

Wouldn't fit the class and honestly it'd be pretty overpowered. Draw, pick balance, rinse and repeat.
Also in the quests they said they couldn't decide what card fate would give them (figuratively and literally).

Ignoring Time Dilation/Celestial Opposition extension buffs because I'm too tired to do the math effectively, 100% Balance uptime would only be 5% DPS increase on a single target. It's not THAT powerful, and I really wish people would quit pretending like it's godlike. On a player doing 1000 DPS, that's only a 50 DPS increase. GOOD, but no more than what a WHM/SCH could contribute extra, AND they have more powerful healing to boot.

Mind you, I'm opposed to 100% buff control as well, since like you, I feel like it goes against the playstyle and theme of the job, but let's not pretend like the current AST card buffs are so ZOMGS POWERFUL that they need to be unreliable in virtually every way.

I agree. The card effects are all really lackluster except the spear which can be scary with the right synergy. Unfortunately, RNG prevents us from even taking advantage of that. The cards just don't a worthwhile enough effect to matter much. 10% damage increase, 10% damage decrease, 20% attack speed increase. Even if you spread and royal road to wait for that "golden opportunity", it's just not enough to make up for the AST's overall lower healing and attack potency since WHM and SCH got a plethora of new pretty toys to play with that lets them continue DPS while healing.

All I can say is that Square Enix certainly has their hands full with this class. I love that they're trying to break the usual mold with some genuinely new concepts; however, how do you make something like this that relies on the luck of the draw viable in end-game content?

It's about Burst creation...

It's really meaningless to make calcul like you just did.

For exemple you'll use balance card on a monk who has oppened his chakra and got his dmg bonus x3. That way the +10 or +15% bonus damage it would create will be consequent.

The Astro is usefull to creat Burst situations : Enormous protection on a tank with Bole added to his current defensiv abilties to be free to not spam heal on him for exemple, or upgraded balance on a dps who just used is offensiv ability to quickly destroy an add, or MP/Tp card to allow spam.

This is true, and I meant to make an addendum pointing that out, but work got busy. T^T This is another reason why %100 control is bad, but honestly, a BIT more control is definitely warranted.

To call things like Bole "enormous protection" or suggesting that things like Spire/Ewer are wholly capable of sustaining DPS through AOE spam (BLM/SMN don't need Ewer for that anyway) is pretty hyperbolic, though. Namely, for big trash pulls, unless you used Spread first you could only have one of those buffs up, not all three.

In general, my point is that the cards are largely underwhelming, and that they don't justify a %17 chànce of Drawing the one you "want", since the effects aren't THAT great.

What is really a shame, is that you can't use Spread while out of battle, and that you can't cumulate two different buff on one ally.

Problem is that 15% damage reduction (ignoring the massive amount of RNG needed to get it) is still garbage when compared to healing classes that simply have the emergency tools and the better mana recovery to do the extra healing needed to start with.
