In NA, FFXI released one year after it did in JP

I have given this a lot of thought while even in alpha. FFXI was released approximately one year in NA after it was released in JP. I have no idea what the launch was like on the PS2 in JP, I am sure it wasn't as bad as what we got in FFXIV. What I want to say is maybe FFXIV isn't too far off from what FFXI was one year later. In the next few months we will have jobs, stable severs (though still laggy), chocobos, airships, dungeons, and a market system you can get some gear and items from. I am not saying any of these features are solid, but they aren't totally broken either (except the server lag). I know FFXI came out on PC back in 2003 for NA and maybe the new experience of playing an MMO in the context of FF, plus the 8 years of development have created unrealistic expectations for FFXIV. Now that we have reached the one year mark and new leadership has taken over with less than a year's influence. I think we should start to really judge the game in January of 2012, the anniversary of Yoshida san taking direction for FFXIV. What I think we will find is a different game than FFXI and a decent game for us to play and enjoy.


PS: SE please dont release the PS3 version till 3 months after FFXIII-2 in NA...just saying.

FFXI was a much better game in beta than this game is right now a year after release. But anyway, I think you're just trying to say "maybe it's not so bad after all". I think it is so bad, but it will work out. I hope some of us can argue successfully here in favor of this game being a lot more fun than it will be if it merely copies and pastes FFXI.

I don't think the ps3 version will be out before march 2012.

It's the history of updates in early FFXI, and as you will see it was a disaster.

This is still no excuse for the state of FFXIV at release though, but I'm optimistic about the future. We're starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, I think.

- Square anounces that the level cap at the current state is 50. Although they have it programmed until level 100, to maintain balance between players they are now ajusted till 50. But at the current state there were nothing much you could do but exping, and between users there were some unpopularity. Square responded that "You level too fast..." (lol...) or "you leveled in a way that we did not expected" (exploits huh...) But then again, users believed "What else could we do???"

I wouldn't get my hopes up, this game had great expectations as any game bearing the tittle final fantasy should have, it had a terrible begining and the only thing they can do now with this broken thing is make it less and less bad very slowly, but don't kid yourself it will never be a good final fantasy game, it'll be lucky if it gets to be decent at best and survive once they decide to start charging monthly fees. I know i'll never pay for it unless some sort of miracle happens, i even regret wasting the 5$ i paid for it to begin with

I noticed no mention of relics in there. When were relics implemented?

The level cap was raised from 70 to 75 in December 2003. Relics were probably implemented then.
