Does having the PS4 phyiscal CE mean I will have to start using the disk to play?

Thought there was a thread about this but I have been unable to find it.

I bought the CE of heavensward, and I hear that if you have the retail version of FFXIV on PS4 you have to always have the disk in.

I upgraded from Ps3 and require no disk to play, and would like to keep it this way.

Does that mean I'm going to need to buy a digital copy after early access in order to continue playing without a disk? Because I see that people who have the digital versions will not need to register... but those of use that bought the physical copies will need to register after the early access period.

Probably not, the disc will just install the data needed to play and then be useless until you decide to uninstall/reinstall.

Hevensward is an add-on :3 since the ps4 version you have is a downloaded version (i assume) then you will not need the disk in your PS4 to play, if it is a disk it should come with an option to install fully onto your ps4 so you won't need the disk anymore :D,

for the add-on content you will need the disk for first time installation and then that should be it :3

Well, the thing is because I will be getting early access I will not need the disk to install, but because it is the physical edition I will need to register it after, because of the way PSN authenticates I assume, and to my understanding anyone that has the physical PS4 version has to use the disk regardless of it being installed or not.

Either way, I hope you're right. But I will like more information on it.

correct, in order for a 'proper' installation aka the actually release date you will have use of your disk or a code to say you have access to this content and using the disk or code (the code is only given out by SE if there is a issue with your delivery) but once you have installed thats it you shouldn't need the disk :3

Early access is like downloading a demo you get a bit but not the full experience the disk will give you.

I've been playing since PS3 beta and this always been digital so I'm curious about this myself. BUT to my experience unless the client is completely erased and a new one given which I believe happened in Beta my client has always simply updated as needed.

I assume/hope HW is no different

I had the disc for the original game, and don't need it to play. One time use, that's it.

I hope you're right Draco~! It was to my understanding that the early access will not be limited so I find it a bit silly that we're gonna need to do more. Thank you for taking the time to give me your insight. XD It at the least calmed me down!

Seiko - PS3 won't have to worry about it. Its a ps4 only issue to need the disk, because of some sort of authentication thing? I don't know how it works because I too have only ever played the digital version.

Egg - You play on PS4 and always played on PS4? Not upgraded? :O

Anarnee, you know what, I did start on the beta on PS3, and got the digital upgrade for PS4. My bad, I'm a fool.

Thank you for clarifying Egg~! That is also my case. I installed with a disk on PS3 and upgraded later on.
