Tanks thrown out of farms for low DPS?

Has this always been a thing? I've been seeing party finders like, "No low DPS / this includes tanks!" And my friend was thrown out of a T12 farm as warrior for not DPSing high enough and the guy apparently blacklisted him from his farms over it.

I mean I main white mage so I don't know but it seems kinda I dunno... unreasonable to care about a tank's DPS in a pickup farm group maybe? I mean I never had trouble getting 4 and close to 3 bennus in T12 farms with tanks doing typical tank DPS so I dunno how necessary this is at all.

If I'm going tank I just want to worry about boss / add positioning, cooldown use and avoiding mechanics that are meant to be dodged as well as survivability to free up healers more rather than what my parse numbers look like. But different strokes for different folks ya know?

Yes I am aware that I can simply 'not join' a party finder with 'rules' I do not agree with. I don't jump over to the forums to write a post like this unless I want to feel out the general community opinions on these kinds of requirements. I don't and never plan to argue with someone over party finder requirements I just don't join them, but I still take interest in community opinions so this post was made, thank you.

For every good party, there's a dumb one. Just avoid the stupid and stick with people who understand that games are about enjoying yourself.

Generally for farm groups people want everyone playing their roll to a certain level for efficiency, and doing dps as a tank is part of playing your role well.

Haven't seen anyone care about a white mage DPS yet but scholars will actually be thrown out of farms for not DPSing enough and contributing to heals. That is pretty standard for a scholar expectation-wise.

Or the group could be run by dummies who don't understand how many a tank can put out in DPS. If there was no need for him to be tanking then one factor to think about is, "Is Defiance on or not?" If he had Defiance on, they asked him to take it off for DPS and he didn't take it off then the group has a valid reason to kicked him. Though if he was doing everything he could to DPS as well as he could then this act was uncalled for.

A good WAR juggles defiance to put out better DPS, but this is tricky to do and involves some good timing.

Even so, who decides what is acceptable DPS for a tank? People who spent millions on BiS crafted gear, penta melds and farmed the perfect items and put it all together who can get 480-500 on a paladin or warrior? We can get into a very gray area when the DPS expectations are set to unrealistic expectations for the 'majority' of players.

Every group is going to have their own requirements and demands. If one of those is that the tank sustains "x" DPS, then that's just their thing. You can always choose to not join them.
