The opening cutscene passenger (Brennan/Bremondt/Brendt) knowing 1.0 Players?

Also, minor 2.55 spoilers in next post, but I won't give much context.

This was something that was on my mind since ARR's launch.

If you start the game now, you are put in an opening cutscene with a peddler and Alisae/Alphinaud traveling to the city you chose. The NPC is one of three brothers depending on which city-state, and he basically gives you advice, a ring, and the city's background.

However, for us crazy 1.0 Legacy folk, we had a different intro to mirror the End of an Era trailer, where we just got teleported to the current time, and then our character walks to the starting city-state (I wish I could replay this in the inn room, only got to see it once during Beta Phase 4 with my old character model).

So I originally thought that I never met the NPC, and he wouldn't know who I am.

But now I remember at the end of the Ultimate Weapon quest when all the NPCs are at the Waking Sands, I spoke to Brennan (The Limsa Passenger) and he acted like he met me before. I believe he mentioned us being on the ship like the standard opening, but the thing is my character walked into Limsa through the front gate. :confused:

At first I just assumed it was an oversight that the dialog wasn't tweaked cause it didn't have the flag that I was a Legacy player, but now it seems other wise since you meet your city-state peddler in 2.55 and the journal says:

So maybe my 1.0 character did meet Brennan offscreen? It's just that they were on a boat that didn't arrive at Limsa, maybe nearby? Just wondering, I don't mind filling in the blanks myself. :)

Considering the Legacy characters appear to originally teleport into the world in what looks like somewhere in the shroud by the ruins around them, they would have had to catch a boat originally to get to Limsa.

Yup, that's exactly how I figured it worked.

It's actually possible to watch them again; change the category in The Unending Journey journal to the [City] Sidequests you started in, and you'll see a 'Coming to [City]' level 1 quest, where cutscenes #2 and #3 are the Legacy-only intro. #1 is the crystal scene (which is neat if you want to see what weapons of light other classes have), #4 was meeting a guard at the entrance of Gridania for me, and #5 is meeting Mother Miounne.

It will amuse myself to watch them again as an Au Ra come 3.0.

I have a feeling it was simply an oversight - the 'canon' 2.0 story appears to be ironically from the perspective of a new character with the 'Legacy' story kind of shoehorned into the narrative (hence the amnesia plot element - it was an easy way to avoid having to give multiple dialogue to npcs regardless whether the character has the 'new' story or the 'Legacy' story.).

The fact that the merchants comically treat a 'Legacy story' character the same as those who got the 'new' opening seems to prove this. Although you could also explain it away I guess that a 'Legacy story' character was simply now recognized for killing van Darnus, seeing as how the amnesia was lifted by that stage. ;)

Incidentally my character is a 1.0 character and I'm a Legacy Campaign member, yet I got the same story as a new player starting on the chocobo carriage, because as it turns out only those 1.0 players who passed the Lunar Transmitter boss battle in 1.0 were treated to the 'Legacy' story in ARR, something SE never revealed until after ARR's launch. 1.0 players who did not satisfy this requirement got the new storyline (and thus were, for all intents and purposes, a new character narrative wise). So stating that "we Legacy players had a special story" is actually not entirely true. But I'm not bitter. ;)

This refers to the normal opening of the game. The peddler was not in the original limsa cutscene, which is what I thought it might have been refering to (1.0 limsa intro with leviathan attacking the ship).

My journal says the same thing, cept ul dah

The three merchant brothers can also be found in the Waking Sands occasionally during the 2.0 story; they help keep the place supplied. So, your character would know all three of them (lore-wise anyway).

The journal entry is likely just an inconsistency, but may not be; not impossible that while you traveled to the starting city from the Shroud you met them initially.

This is what I was going to post. I clearly remember them popping up there a couple times in the story, I believe they are also in the last cs when everyone is hanging out in Mor Dhona after your big victory.

Not to derail the thread, just wanted to point out that a dev commented on this some time ago, and it is not Leviathan. I cannot recall what he said it was, but its not a primal of any kind.
