How do you feel about the FFXI News?

To summarize, PS2 and XBox versions will get shut down but PC version will continue along with a smart phone version and a final expansion, Rhapsodies of Vana’diel.

Also announced is a FFXI spinoff phone game, Final Fantasy Grandmasters:

i feel kinda sad, i always imagine i'd go back one day & enjoy it again.

But i doubt i have the time, if it was re-released with singleplayer mode / maybe even coop via PSN or something (PS4 in mind)
or even on PC as standalone game i would buy it again & play when i had time.

It will live on pc for years probably. Sad thing is they stopping content after november so dunno what that really means for the game

I was in FFXI alpha and beta. It seems so long ago that I played the game, and I don't think I would go back to play the game since I don't think I would have the patience or time anymore. Plus FF14 is too much fun!

Old school FFXI was the best. The abyssea came and... well, it's not the same.

I'm saddened as well. Both because ive been playing since 07 and because I doubt that ffxiv will be getting the team that wrote the cop/zilart/toau story lines (I teared up a bit at certain points in all three) or jobs like blue mage/ corsair.

I imagine something like PSO2es. Not the exact same game, but with a similar feeling too it, and with rewards that are shared between games.

Anyway, FFXI has been around for nearly 15 years now. It's had a good, long run. It going into maintenance mode is hardly the worst thing that could happen too it at this point, especially when most of the servers are practically empty even during primetime.

As someone who played FFXI since release, I've never understood this. FFXI was not a difficult game outside of logistics, and that generally fell on only the upper level linkshell leaders across the server to either play nice or constantly be causing drama. The game itself was quite easy (with two exceptions, AV and PW).

Pretty sad, but not because of anything they announced.

I'm really disappointed they don't currently have plans to merge servers. A few friends and I would have resubbed for sure if they announced a merge. The game was great when I went back for a month (before 2.4 in XIV), the main issue was finding people to do things with. I guess with the add on packs coming they anticipate old vets to come back and play the game, but I can't see there being a huge spike.

It made me really sad. :( I had hopes they'd remake it someday..haha /delusional xD
