What should I do with old gear?

What am I supposed to be doing with my old gear? Should I sell it? Will I need it once I unlock the glamour system? Do I keep hoarding all of the gear I've collected or can I get rid of it?

You can turn some of it in to your GC for seals.

Green and pink highlighted gear can be traded for seals at the Grand Company.

So what do I need for glamour once I unlock it? I don't really understand it.

And should I be selling the gear that can't be turned in to GC?

Anything that hits 100% spiritbond (which most of your levelling gear probably will) can be converted to materia, which is much more useful than just vendoring it.

This ^ easy way to make some pretty solid money whilst leveling.

For every glamour you will need to buy one glamour prism. If i remember correctly you get some from the quest that unlocks glamours.
You can also craft your own prisms.

So the prisms contain the actual designs that I would be applying to gear?

No a prism is a means to attach a visual to another item. You still need the original item. Once you glamour you don't need the original item anymore (unless you want to re-glamour it later).

So how it works. Item A is old item with cool graphic. Item B is new item with MEH graphic. You buy/craft a prism of the appropriate type and grade, then you apply the old graphic to the new item. It consumes the glamour prism. At that point you can ditch the old item. Be warned, the graphic goes to the new item, so if you replace that item with another one and want the same visual is the original, you would need to glamour the original again.
