Playing with friends from different starting areas

Hello,
I am new to the game and me and my girlfriend are playing together. The thing is i am a different Race then she is and we had different starting areas do we eventually intercept courses of do we have to leave one of our starting areas to go play with the other. Does it affect main scenario quests and so things like that?

The race actually doesn't have anything to do with where you start, your classes do. Follow the Main Story until 15, your nation'll send you to the other two and you can meet her there. Or if you're in Gridania & Ul'Dah you could both walk/run to each other from the cities.

I think you will have separate story quests up till 15 though. If you get to and help her with hers you'll have to come back to do yours and transport between cities is based of quest progression, not level so you have to run or teleport back to do your quests.

Having said all that, the bulk of the story will be the same and you will have no trouble doing it together.

That is excellent information and exactly what I needed to know thank you so much. Just play to level 15 and then go together from there that is not a problem. Also just for the record I am in gridania and she is in lumia noseca or something close. Also because the search function didn't turn up a very good explanation and you may know is there a good place to find how classes and jobs mesh together and possible build paths for certain classes/jobs?

Sadly Limsa Lominsa is kind of locked transport wise until you gain your airship pass around level 15 as part of the storyline (even though there is actually a ferry service that operates between Limsa and the mainland, you cannot ride this until you have your airship pass). But luckily that isn't too hard to get to fast.

Generally, I advise a tank and a healer. Both are perfectly capable of DPSing for non-dungeon content, and for dungeons those are the two lesser-played roles, and so you'll have near instant queues to get in together. This means Conjurer and either Gladiator or Marauder. Past level 30, Scholar also works as a healer, but it means leveling Arcanist to 30 first (which is a DPS)

can always use a tank and arcanist til 30. It actually still goes pretty quick
