What are the stat priorities for a Lancer, strength>dexterity>, etc. . . . I have no idea, 'cause I can't find this information anywhere either.
What about magic defense vs. defense on my character? I have been sacrificing magic defense for defense on any equipment upgrades. . .is this right? Do I even need magic defense?
Like I mentioned in my last thread, I have been studying up on http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/
Are there other sites that have better or more detailed information?

Going to answer both threads here.
The appearance function in this game is refered to as the glamour system it is walled behind a quest available at level 50. From what I understand from others descriptions it is similar to the transmogrification system you are refering to.
As a lancer you are in the unique position of being the "tanky" dps, giving you availability to equip the lower grade tank gear. The answer to this is going to be contested by someone, but you can't really go wrong with any gear you can equip as lnc while leveling up as long as the main primary stat is strength(str). It is suggested given the option you use gear that is not intended for tanks though, ie gear not listed as equipable only by mrd/war/gld/pld/lnc/drg.
Primary stat wise for any class you do you want to solely focus on the one you have the most of natrally, in this case strength. There are exceptions to this when it comes to tank/healer jobs, but as dps its absolute so far.
As far as defence, as a lnc as long as you do your best to keep your equipment ilvl relevant to your current level it doesn't matter. Level appropriate solo fights do not hit hard enough one way or the other, and in group fights as lnc you should not be getting hit most of the time anyway (unless it is an undodgeable that is going to hit everyone)

Adding to what's been mentioned, don't worry too much about Defense vs Magic Defense. Enemies you'll be facing solo in the game are tuned in damage to be able to be killed by the lightest-armoured class (Black Mage, which has no self-sustain). By the time you're at a point where this does matter? Your gear drops are all class specific and you don't really have a choice in the matter anyway, and they'll give you plenty enough defense/mdef.
Strength is your primary stat to look for (I listed the primary stats a while ago when you asked about all the classes!). Almost all gear also provides free Vitality. DEX, MND, PIE, and INT are useless to you.
In general, if it's higher level gear and has the appropriate stats/equippability, you should use it instead. That said, you don't need to stress out too much - if you're keeping your weapon up to date (Do your class quests!) you should be fine as a DPS through up to 50; the rest of your body gear can lag 5-10 levels behind if need be, and accessories only even have upgrades once every 8-9 levels, which are usually just luxuries.
The rules change somewhat when you hit 50 and are moving into "postgame", but that's a topic for when you get there. -
12-19-2014, 04:17 PMruskieActually I consider the gear that has both tanks and lnc/drg to be the lnc/drg leveling gear. It even has some makings of the drg af look in it. And it tends to have a set available every so levels. You can use other DPS gear to slot in what's missing. But yeah stat wise all in str.Quote:
