absolutely love the new name for the SCH relic. perfectly fits the lore for the Nymian schs. And the design.... dont even get me started

Too bad i will never see it equipped on my character cause im still on my atma 2/9 books and its kinda pointless for me to work on the relic if im already progressing on t13. (that sexy dreadwyrm codex tho)

And i just looked at the quest for the nexus -> zodiac update. holy grind fest batman.

Would have to agree. Every new quest just kills any motivation I may have had to upgrade the relic weapon. I understand it's meant to be a legendary item that few should ever obtain, but when you realize how much time you'll spend trying to get this weapon when there are far easier options every step of the way it just seems rather pointless.

While I do love the fact we can tailor it to whatever secondary stats we want, that still doesn't compensate for the time put into the weapon. Now if it had an extra passive effect on it, let's say, "Increases healing potency by an additional 10% while equipped" then sure, I might struggle to grind it out, but otherwise it'll only add another 20 HP per heal over a less optimal weapon without determination. Grand scheme of things it's just not worth it to me.

Im on my last book and dont feel like its worth the trouble to grind alex maps and light or whatever it is now. Grinding for it is cool if you arent doing any DoL or DoH or any other job for that matter. I will personally not try as hard to get new relic bit i do like that it gives something to the players who have put the time in already. A bigger line from the hardcore FF player to the casual player.

Funny enough, I'm the opposite. I'm a WHM main that mains SCH for Coil, and have been meaning to get to my relic book sooner or later. The way The Last Resort is designed makes me want to get it now~

While true in FFXI, I think the design mentality has changed here. This weapon is accessible through nothing more than time. That resource is all that is required to obtain it, and it offers players who have no interest in or the ability to do endgame raiding a viable weapon option.

That being said, the requirements to progress are sometimes daunting, to say the least. I look forward to the day I have mine finished, but sometimes I feel a serious lack of motivation to work on it.

This patch has completely ruined the relic quest for me. The fact that they felt the need to force desynthesis and 8 3-star crafted items, in addition the initial 400,000 gil needed is disgusting to me. Sure, for people that have all their crafts at 3-stars or higher, it's no big deal. But, for the people who have no desire to craft, it's the worst possible requirement I've seen yet.

I used to agree, up until the Materia point in the quest line. While you could grind all the materia yourself (god only knows how many hours of gameplay that would take), most people would have to buy their materia. For a casual player who only gets maybe 2-3 hours a night in on the game (probably less then that), it would take several months to even see any headway into your weapon.

Now the next part of the quest is just a pure grind of dungeons, trials, raids, etc. Basically something you do anyway in your spare time to cap out your Soldiery/Poetics/Currency at the time. I rather enjoy the freedom this part of the quest offers. You can do what you want as long as you have your weapon equipped, but it will take significant time.

Now enter the new quest where you need Desynthing, Crafting, GC Seals, 400K Gil, Soldiery, and RNG dungeon grinds (because remember the item you need won't always drop from the dungeon you've completed over 50+ times already). None of the other quests involved you to use crafting save from the very first quest that wanted you to create (or buy) the weapon and insert 2 pieces of materia into it.

And after all of this grinding, you get a weapon that has slightly better SECONDARY stats then the final weapons out of raiding. Because let's face it, you don't need to upgrade your Relic weapon for any current content. There are plenty of alternatives, from Soldiery bought, to Shiva dropped, that would suffice just as well. It's nothing more then a status symbol to prove that you took the time (or had enough money) to achieve this feat.

What irks me the most, as if my rant wasn't enough already, is the fact that this isn't even it's final form. This particular quest will only upgrade it to ilvl 125, with the final quest pushing it to ilvl135. While some of the elite few will have it before the next patch, I can guarantee the majority of players will not, dare I say over 95% of the current people playing this game. Also as I stated before, there's no benefit to upgrading it over the desired SECONDARY stats you want. It does nothing but shine brightly and "look cool". There are no passives added onto these items that will help your healing, damage, or tanking mitigation in anyway aside from what the secondary stats offer (which you personally had to grind/pay for in the first place).

Logically speaking, you could spend your time going after another weapon far more efficiently then attempting to complete these relic quests. Yes the weapon wouldn't be as great as the relic could potentially be, but again you don't need it to be. There is nothing currently in the game that requires you to have this weapon completed other then the next quest which will require more grinding.

The dungeon items are fairly easy to get, its not a grind like 2k nexus light.
The Desynth item are pretty easy to get and even levels your desynth pretty easy. (you dont need to invest a shitload of money for it) also ask other ppl to desynth you items, they will do it for free or in exchange for desynth something they cant.
Crafting the 3 star items arent that hard too, just find someone who will craft it for you and maybe pay them for it. (On our server there are ppl offering there service for a lil fee)

To be honest, that's the best and easiest (beside creating the first weapon) step from all until now. Somehow i get the feeling that ppl just dont want to cooperate with other players. Stop playing a "MMO" if its a problem.
Oh the funniest part was helping First Timers through content for 100 Soldiery Bonus :3

Personally im not getting the relic book as I dont have that kind of time to invest, but wish the best to those who do.

|But seriously guys, if you dont want to get it or dont like how it turned out. Just dont do it, there are other ways of getting weps on par or superior.

Congrats on getting the weapon. But atleast in my scenario it kinda doesnt make sense for me to do the grind is all im saying. I started the game in April when it was release for ps4. I was already behind on relic progression as i didnt hit 50 till late in the animus stage, im going to say some time in may. I was working on my atma when i got the High Allagan Grimoire of healing. So i didnt keep grinding. Now if i try and continue the quest i'll probably get the Dreadwyrm codex before i even finish the relic. Its just too much of an uphill climb at this point. Especially for a suboptimal weapon. Even if i were to spec my Omnilex for accuracy so i can dps in FCoB it would still be stupid for me to use the i125 Last Resort if i have an i135 weapon available.

And to be honest the only thing holding me back is the novus stage and the gathering of alexandrite. Thats the part that seems to deflate my spirits whenever i actually think of completing my relic.

On top of that it was my turn to get the encrypted tomestone this week. So by next tuesday i will have an i130 codex
