I think I recall this being the case with FC houses when they were first announced...not even sure if this is still a thing. I'm asking because I'm going away for possibly a month and don't want to come back with my 10 mil gil investment gone.

The Devs mulled it over and ended up scrapping the mechanic. So don't worry your house will still be there.
I personally have seen no evidence of this so if you are going to make that claim I would appreciate you providing a source in order to be sure you are not giving people the wrong information which could potentially cost them millions. It is possible what you are saying is true but you should be providing a source for this, until you do so I advise the OP to not take your reply as factual information.
Last time I've checked there was a 35 days limit to how long you can keep a terrain without visiting it at all.
If it has been changed then please show us the post where you've read it.
In the 2.1 Patch notes it says that in 2.2 and onward that houses would be relinquished after a certen ammount of time if they went unused (look for red colored text.) We are now at 2.4 with Hevensward on the horizon. I am a member of an FC with a house. One of our neighboring FC's houses next door that has gone untouched for over a year. Unless the Devs change their mind, I think its safe to conclude that houses won't be yanked away.
Would be nice if it was changed. I always found it wrong that they had such a short time limit on it to begin with.
That is not an adequate source. Basically you admit that in 2.1 patch notes SE says that after 2.2 the loss of a property will exist when absent for a prolonged period of time. That their intention is to implement removal of a persons house after a certain amount of inactivity. You have not given any SE related source that says their stance has changed and will no longer implement it. As it stands right now the latest information is they will still be introducing it sometime post-patch 2.4 which just came out. This means they could introduce it at any time, even potentially in the next patch.
Once again you are asking someone to risk losing many millions of gil on nothing but your word that their stance has changed, saying you know someone who you think has not played for a year but still has their house is anecdotal at best and is again asking them to trust you based on nothing more than your word that they will not lose it in future. I strongly suggest the OP does not take your word for this and your word alone on it. Unless you can provide an adequate source direct from SE themselves about their stance being changed they should avoid taking the risk.
I am not saying you are wrong, but I am saying your word alone is not good enough to take that risk. Currently based on SE sources, it is still a thing and someone could potentially lose their house when taking prolonged periods away from the game if they introduce it as they still say they will. The amount of time inactive before lose it is still not set in stone and when they plan to introduce it is still also unknown but according to SE they do still plan to do so and it could be at any time.
