Zodiac quests should not be nerfed if 3.0 introduces brand new relics

If the 2.0 weapons continue to be upgraded post 3.0 then that is an entirely different story (one that justifies nerfs). However, if everyone is back to square one (new relics) post 3.0 - then that in itself eliminates the reasoning behind nerfing the zodiac quests (new players will be caught-up when the new questline is introduced).

At least allow the players who put in the time to have the benefit of glamours. There are plenty of players who suffered through the atma phase (many spent 100+ hours). If these weapons are going to be outdated in a mere 6 months - then what is the point of playing catch-up? What is the point of ever playing at more than a casual pace if all items (regardless of necessity) are gift-wrapped to the entire community? This is an instance where it is not necessary (assuming new relics in 3.0).

Old content should be nerfed when new / casual players are faced with unreasonable amount of catch-up. That I completely understand. If there are new relics in 3.0 - any nerfs lose their purpose.

Really, each phase should've been nerfed as the new one was released. Oh well, better late than never I guess.

in 2.4 110weapons will be so easy to get that no1 is going to bother with Zodiac weapons if u dont nerf quest to the ground.

Doing Zodiac quests is a good way to keep players paying monthly , while they finish the atma>books >alexandrites > farm dutys > ???

or just buy 100 weapon with soldiery that rains down the sky (2.4) , UAT who doesnt have 1 at least by now? else go ST and get 1 this week no1 need on it anymore > free 110

p.d dont forget ALT jobs....doing the quest a 2nd time sucks

I think the atma phase is horrible. I also think the books take forever. These are things that SE should have fixed ages ago. But because they waited so long - the damage has been done and countless players have endured. As you say, there is no point for a new player to spend countless hours obtaining a meaningless item level 100 animus when item level 110 weapons are already a common commodity. In half a year, 3.0 will be released and there will likely be a new relic quest. There is no "need" to catch everyone up. If players who don't have a zodiac want it for glamour purposes - they have plenty of objectives to accomplish to obtain such weapon.

at this stage i dont really see how it matters much, the atma weapon is nothing but a glorified i90 and the rest of the questline is brutal.

I mean:

animus -> pretty long bookgrind + about 500k worth of gil lost in tomes alone (emery ~19k on my server)
novus -> long grind and the money lost could probably buy you one or two houses. (im not 100% certain since i havent done this myself, going by materia prices).
nexus -> wont cost you gil but its a very long grind aswell.

what does it matter if people who are just starting on this get their atmas a little faster? Its a good change anyway since the old system was unfair as hell. mine took about 35-40 hours while some got theirs in less than 15.

Exactly this. This is what any sane new player is going to do. Once the cap is moved to 2000, you'll be able to get a 110 every week (i'm assuming the 1/week limit on tomestones is staying, otherwise it'll be even worse).

Relic + Zenith? 3-4 hours
Atma? Lets be nice and say 16 hours
Animus? <throws up hands and runs ST>

My question is where did you get the idea that 3.0 will contain new relics? I have never seen that in any official interview/live letter. Maybe I missed it but right now I'm under the impression that relics will continue to be upgradeable post 3.0.

In addition to relics they might add an additional upgradeable weapon (similar to how they added mythic weapons in FFXI) but so far we know nothing about 3.0 other than the name and a few obvious details (new jobs/primals/dungeons/raid).

Personally, I'm very grateful that they are increasing the atma drop rate, aside from that I'm not really too concerned. My experience with atma has not been a good one at all and at this point I've given up on it but the changes coming in 2.4 will give me a reason to go back and try again, hopefully without spending over 12 hours in a single zone without getting anything this time.

This is pretty much my entire point. If a new questline is starting in 3.0 - why does there need to be a purpose and incentive for new / casual players to complete Zodiac? Let all of the time that previous players spent be worth something (as a nice glamour piece). It's not like new / casual players can't put in the time as well if they really want the glamour piece. I agree - there is better use of ones time but SE shouldn't make getting a Zodiac easier (to create incentive) when countless alternatives exist for new / casual players. All this does is diminish the effort countless other players put in not too long ago.

If you play an average amount of time per week you might be just wrapping up the animus phase or beginning the novus phase. Over the past 6 months you've probably spent a good 150-200 hours on this. By quickly pushing new / casual players to Novus - you're ultimately hurting the average player.

Why would the make a new relic? So newcomers/returning players don't get stuck behind trying to do "old content". Do you really think people are going to want to run the old dungeons a lot when new expansion comes out? They barely do it now. This is the same reason they give echo to coil.

I bet the zodiac weapon quest will end once 3.0 comes out. It will become a vanity weapon since their plans were, at some point, to have it change the animations of certain skills.
