Why do dungeons drop crafting materials in place of loot rather than alongside it?

Stone Vigil HM Run -

First Boss - Aqueous Whetstone
Second Boss - Aqueous Whetstone x2
Final Boss - Cooking Sherry

Seriously, why can't we just run dungeons and actually have the expectation that we'll actually get some of the new sets instead of "Oh, some crafting material that most people can't even use which isn't even worth that much by itself".

Oh nice. I'm glad it's being addressed. I hope they don't take the crafting materials out entirely (I'm one of those weirdoes that doesn't mind getting them) but rather leaves them in dropping alongside gear. As much as I like getting a few coke/animal fat/etc from a dungeon, I have to say there is nothing quite so disappointing than beating the boss, opening the chest, and finding that pirates were there before you and left their cooking sherry behind. I guess it was too nasty for even them to drink. :c

cause the whetstones are worth 5k each and it's a lot better then getting the gear to turn into seals. 2500>900

i personally like the material drops course i do like loot drops too i find it perfectly balanced. hack right now filtered water is worth 2k on my server.

Yeah some items are expensive, the others are worthless, but you can't buy this vanity, so gear > craft items.

really it's all about opinion here. i personally like the drops i have no care for wearing gear for looks and the mats make a lot of money so obviously the mats win for me but for others like you said vanity is more important then making money.

Well that is indeed your opinion, as most people don't want useless crap dropping in place of gear. as it was not like this at first. It's not about vanity being "more important then making money" it's that people have better, more effective ways of making gill then hoping they win some dungeons crafting materials over the 3 other lots they have to compete with vs the 1 thousand other items on the market board, this is rather low, ineffective way of making gill vs...spirit bonding for example. It needs to go.

Gear > Vanity = Gil, if you ask me.

The fact is that some people can use the gear, and that's the most important thing. Second, that gear can't be gotten anywhere else while there are ways to get those seal materials you want to sell. It's fine to want to sell seal materials, but that desire certainly shouldn't overrun people's desire to get the thing that can only be gotten from the dungeon, especially if they actually need it. You can get seal materials from ventures, desynths, and of course buying with seals, which you can get by turning in the gear from the dungeon. Sure, it's not as instant and great as a single dungeon drop but it's actually better if you ask me, because you can cherry pick whichever seal mat is worth the most at the time.

Instead of Sherry. I get a lot of Sherry.

Getting gear for people who need it should always be the most important thing.

I hate those drops I can just buy them on the marketboard every time I just pass on those items
