Something that's bugging me about the potential level increase

Okay I'm a little worried about the level ca. We know that he iLevels go beyond the class leevl inf act the iLevel "cap" is 230% that of the class cap

That means that those in endgame gear, or even CT gear could potential find themselves in their smallclothes because they're no longer at the level cap, the bare minimum to equip end game gear. And thus have to spend gil getting new armor with an iLevel rnage of 51 to 54 (There's already i55 gear) or even 60

However that is but one possibility, another possibility is that SE could make new i120-125+ gear but you must reach the new cap to equip them. This could also mean that SE could bar players from leveling beyond 50 until they do something ether story or endgame related. And that the new abilities would have to be powerful to compensate

What are your thoughts on the increased cap idea? and do you think it could or should effect the player's ability to equip the current gear up to i115?

There would be no issue at all equipping current gear. Not sure why you would think there would be. If the level cap was raised to say, 60 tomorrow, it would mean nothing to current gear since they all have a REQUIRED level of 50.

To be fair, all a level cap increase would do is allow them to add more abilities (even though they had no issue adding plenty of skills and even "temporary" skills to people in XI with the 75 cap that was set in place for 6 years) otherwise they can go as high on ilvl as they want without preventing us from using it till x - Some gear will logically be level 5x-xx, but I see no real problem since there's pretty much nothing that'll happen with a level cap increase besides new skills added.

I imagine it's going to be more of an FFXI problem when they raised it from 75 to 99. Even the jump to 85 invalidated basically all gear that had ever existed during 75 cap save for a few, they also let others be augmented. This means a new player will join and level to 60/75 or whatever they make the new cap at and have better gear from leveling dungeons than people who had a full set of High Allagan.

They will eventually settle on a long term cap but prepare to see butt-hurt people if/when the cap is raised.

Thing is - Yoshi already stated he took the stance of major progression = old content and gear become obsolete or severely gimped. Meaning what happened in XI, which by the way was 75 cap for most of its life already happens in XIV regularly. The only difference is Myth gear (launch i90 gear) was never obsoleted because it's such a standard set of gear they honestly can't obsolete it while myth tomes is our main currency.

With XI it was more of a problem that the change from 75 - 99 was too quick, but necessary because the content they wanted to develop for XI level 75 characters couldn't handle it, even fully merited and decked out.

You cannot have progression that does not render old gear and content obsolete.

People get bored doing new content for sideways "upgrades" a lot faster than they get bored doing new content for gear that actually makes their character stronger.

We have already seen this, if in a small way. It took the duty roulette to really get people into low level dungeons to help out people trying to do them for the first time (or for exp) because those low level dungeons do not offer anything really useful to a higher level character. Why would a level 40, or a level 50 i97 want to queue for Sastasha, when the exp is either tiny (or useless), and the gear is useless? They didn't want to, until the Low Level Duty Roulette. Similarly, people don't want to continue to farm AK/WP for gear when they can farm BCoB, SCoB, etc. for higher ilevel gear. In effect, the lower level and lower ilevel content is obsoleted by higher level and higher ilevel content/rewards.

I still feel Yoshi (SE) is pushing things too quickly - the pace at which this game is going after less than a year.. from lvl 50 (real) to imaginary (110)

I never played WoW (hated the graphics), or FFXI, I can't relate.

I am used to old MMOs and Korean ones where Grind was your day, getting one level was an achievement in itself. Then next one was so much of a gap..

That gave plenty of time for DEVs to create, test, and insert properly new content.

Some things being improvised and rushed, do not always give the best outputs (Hunts)

Now it feels like: you play for 2 weeks, doing Main Story: Capped.

I understand there is lots of generations playing in here (not to say I am THAT OLD ^^) but the instant gratification, getting high rewards from little input, kills the enjoyment for some.

Casual and Old School - not sure if this game is really getting into the same groove.

*I wonder if all the 'blue bar resting bonus in towns' will apply in a lump sum when the lvl cap will be raised lol

Part of FF11's problem was that it revolved around the 75 level cap far too long and the increase from 80-99 was rapid as mentioned.

Another thing was that for most of the new gear they realized that hey people like when gear is awesome and made a lot of it super nice when most old gear only had like 1 piece in a set that was good if it had any good pieces at all.

I honestly haven't had any issue with the jump in iL from 90 to 110/115, I think it won't be too jarring if they keep doing the increases in relatively small increments since right now even i90 gear that I took a while to get is still being used and although there is better stuff a good amount of it will work just fine for current content.

Annnnd FFXIV players will have to get used to it. New expansion = obsoleted gear in every single major mmo except XI, and it's the reason XI stagnated. Congratulations on spending time to get all that high Allagan gear - now get the newest gear through the newest raid in the newest storyline.

I agree we'll see some butt hurt, but it shouldn't be to the degree we saw in XI. I also don't see any settling of a long-term cap happening here - it's not possible with the way gearing works. We can't do sidegrades and macro things in like we did in XI (which admittedly wasn't something the developers had foreseen, but it worked out well for them). The only way to go is up unless there do a MAJOR retool of the entire armory and class system.
