can monk be fixed in pvp/frontlines without fundamentaly overhauling the job? actually i think drg needs help too. im starting to see matches where the closest thing to a melee dps, are dps geared war's and thats cause wars get a fair amount of damage buffs as well as having heavy armor to endure hits. i tried to play drg in a similar fashion as my war and it didnt work because drg is too squishy. an idea i had was to make the skill speed buff a trait and change the GL attack buff to function more like wrath stacks or simply give mnk combo bonuses. i think mnk is fine in pve it just doesnt work at all in pvp. i used to not care about pvp but frontlines is actually pretty fun and im sick of seeing team full of blm/bard/smn and a spattering of tanks. i suppose the lazy aproach would be to just have all positional requirments ignored in pvp and maybe buff featherfoot.

Dragoon is actually pretty great at Frontlines. They have the best burst damage in the game and that is what it takes to kill someone that is getting constantly healed. I can see monk having a problem, but if they are good enough to keep Greased Lightning up then any other buff to them would make them too powerful. I'm sure a monk with Greased Lightning III can keep a healer on lock down with actions every 2 seconds all while doing pretty good damage.

This thread would be better served being in the PvP subforum rather than general discussion. Was it placed here simply to generate more views? Also, I disagree that MNKs and DRGs are "bad" in PvP. You think casters are so amazing? I have to sit there and Bio, then alternate Ruin2 and Energy Drain most of the time because there's not a shot in hell I'm getting the rest of my DoTs up. If I do, it's pretty cool (no one is actively targeting me... somehow...). BLM is even less fun, getting interrupted constantly and watching people run off. Woo, gonna Scathe them to death, because any other spell I try isn't going to finish casting before they get out of range. Caster LB similarly is useless unless the whole other group is completely spaced. As a caster, I'm more scared of MNKs and DRGs than anything else on the field. If you're getting wrecked as a melee dps, you may want to try to examine why that is, because I do not believe it's because "the job sucks". It's more likely because you are running into situations without proper support and/or solo.
I mean, you said you tried to play DRG like you did WAR... Should be obvious right from the get that that's a bad idea. You're not going to tank a mob of people. Focus down people with the other dps, and don't try to tank everything. -

I actually have alot of fun running MNK in frontlines. shoulder tackle/steel peak and Somersault are great vs mages. shoulder tackle even moreso if they try to run. never run into a group of people alone though. even if you're with a group you generally don't want to surround yourself completely with your enemy without a few other people.
there are things in this game already that only apply to PVP, changing stuff now would change nothing for PVE...Quote:
