Melding a Leatherworker suggestions please.

Hello.

I'm new to crafting and I wanna be able to get into the two and three star recipes on my leather worker. I know there's guides around on the internet for how to go about doing this, but they seem out dated and in most of the comments I've read, there seems to be arguments about most build designs that people don't seem to agree with.

So I just wanna simplify it and ask here.

What materias should I put into what pieces of gear for my Leather Worker? And don't worry about price of materia, I just wanna know the most optimal set up to have.

Again, I just wanna know the BiS materias for each piece of gear for Leather Worker.

Also; do I only need to reach the minimal requirements to craft those recipes, or do I want as much craftsmanship and control that I can possibly stack?

2/3* minimums are sufficient to make 2/3* items. Meld accessories and belt first since those will apply to all crafting jobs.

Though you might have difficulty HQing 2* or attempting 3* without certain crossclass abilities like Byregot's Blessing (50 CRP), Ingenuity/II (15/50 BSM), Careful Synthesis II (50 WVR), or (less so) Comfort Zone (50 ALC). And Piece by Piece (50 ARM) for 3*. Most 2/3* rotations were designed around having 50 in every craft.

Are you putting the higher grade (most expensive) materia in first?

Need to complete a 2nd quest at materia moblin in Central Thanalan, north of Black Brush. Involved melding a bunch of times. You will get the "Advanced Materia Melding" skill which lets you "overmeld".

And final question.

So for the off hand tool, (since craftsmanship and control cannot both be capped) which is the more optimal of the two? Should I invest those slots into craftsmanship, or control? Perhaps a little of both maybe? Any recommendations on this would be appreciated!

I haven't touched these yet personally, but on crafting and gathering classes the offhand simply can't have capped stats all 'round. That said, if you cap the stats on everything else you usually don't need to put very much into the offhand anyway. Most guides I've seen recommend at least 6 craftmanship and 5 control. That should be sufficient, but you can keep going up to 19 craftmanship, 11 control, and I think 6 CP, or rather you could if octa-melding was a thing.

Getting all of your materia done is time consuming and/or expensive. I'd put either just the teir IV craftsmanship or both the craftsmanship and control materias in there and leave it for the time being.

You only asked about LTW, but I assume you know that to meld the materia yourself you'll need BSM and WVR as well for your LTW's tools and some armor pieces, as well as GSM for accessories. For materia you only need to have the class at 50 (as opposed to nicely outfitted and melded), but if you're already doing that, it's certainly helpful that those classes can make the tools and armor. This game isn't at all friendly to people wanting to pursue a single tradecraft, but it's not as though you have to equip them all the same.

It is completely up to you. You will get different responses everytime, but the most common responses involve a definite Control IV in there for eventual 3-star crafting. Personally, I did Control IV, Craftsmanship III, and CP III and will probably throw another Craftsmanship on there at some point, probably a grade II. The CP III might seem like it's useless, but it helps out with certain rotations so you can use a lower quality food and definitely helps with 3-star crafting rotations. Enjoy!

IME the best melding order, so you can obtain 1-star, 2-star, and 3-star:
First and most benefit received: all of your HQ jewelry items + belt. Why? You only need one set of it for ALL of your DoH classes.
Second: Your HQ AF gear - in your case, LW shirt, gloves, trousers, workboots
Third: Grind your way for your Artisan Specs and new MH tool. This MAY require you to grind other DoH to higher levels.
Forth: Meld OH tool

Note: You do want to try to obtain 345 base CP ASAP, as a lot of 100% HQ rotations requires 341-388 CP.
