What do you think about the current copy/paste maps?

Hi I speak/read Japanese and English and been reading the JP forums since this forum started last night and haven't seen much talks on the English side about the current copy/paste maps

Mainly people are just discussing what they feel about the maps and wanted to see what majority of English players think about it.

Personally I know it's a hard job to make maps but the work they have put into the maps, although nice and pretty, its shame that Square-Enix is using mass copy/paste of same hills, caves, bridges, and the forest outside of Gridania is aweful.

Wanted to see more maps close to FFXI where you see the scenery gradually changing to the next map Sandoria to Selbina, or Sandoria to Jeuno, Windurst to Maura (sorry if spelling is wrong) I was expecting maps like that from Square-Enix not maps where you in Uldah and you zone from a mountain to suddenly a forest... how that happen? What's in between?? Gridania's forest to Cruzas (sp?) or Morduna (sp?) they just suddenly skip maps and Square-Enix called this a seemless map... where!? They use long passage ways as loading zones in entrance of cities that just makes us run long distance just to get in/out... This is just my thoughts into this one.

What do you guys think of the current copy/paste maps?

Sorry if the names of places are spelled wrong, I'm on JP client and been playing the game in JP most of the time.

Honestly... with FFXI I paid attention to everything. I loved looking at the flowers that would turn bright at night and at the effects and explore every single corner...

on XIV it feels totally generic. I pay no attention to where I go. I just stare at the minimap. :c

I hate it passionately and it ruins the game for me. I'd much prefer smaller zones like XI

This is clearly a ZOMGHuge issue to a lot of people, but since it doesn't affect my gameplay, I could really care less how many times they pasted in the same hill.

Yeah, I think the size of the zones also hurts. When running through Thanalan for instance, it just feels like I am seeing the same thing over and over and over... probably because I am seeing the same thing over and over and over. =/

I understand the need to use the same doodads and textures and whatnot, but the fact that there are entire big chunks of ground that are dot-for-dot identical is more than a little disappointing. Anyways, it would be interesting to see what the Japanese players thoughts are on this. I'm afraid I can only speak and read English... and a little Spanish... sort of.

I think the copy/paste is tolerable in small doses but it is totally unexceptable in the overuse of it that is in the game now. Its seems very very lazy of SE.

well each zone was dfferent. As it was in its own thing. From what I'm told ffxiv is open. I seen youtube vids and just don't get what ppl mean by copy and pasted. Zones are coherent. And infact some zones in ffxi were copy and pasted. Like west and east ron north and south gustemburg. as in reality these where "conntected zones".

A clear explination + pics will help me grasp the copy/paste complaint.

Personally if you are upset about a large scale game realm that is barely broken into zones. Then you are very bored and just finding coming to complain about.

I've seen worst game worlds in mmo. Such as DCUO, Two worlds was pretty much. And I hated Aion. You need fluid landscapes. Like in real life. Our worlds by the sound of you guys copy and pasted. With minor diffrences.

Again a clear viewing and explination will help me understand.

As a person who did Computer aided drafting it isn't easy making stuff. Alot of effor goes into everything. You need stuff connected to the smallest incriment of size.

Every company uses copy/paste/algorithms etc.

What the game world needs is really interesting and meaningful deviation.

Everything looks very generic. All the caves in Thanalan are the same, all the ridges in La Noscea are the same, and don't even get me started about every square yalm in The Black Shroud.

But to be honest, it doesn't really bother me anymore. But it would be nice for some variation. Obviously its too late to fix the current areas, but hopefully the expansion areas will be far more varied.

Well lots of posts on the JP side are complaining about the forest for sure lol, but other than that good posts I saw in there are like how the camps are also copy/paste. They would like to see changes to camps like say for Morduna area since it's supposed to be area with a lot harder mobs they wanted the camp to look like a mini fortress where they are actually guarding the camp from the large Paiste (that how you spell it in EN version?)

Lots want all maps to be changed but I'm sure that's one hard request; if that happens I would be happy myself.

Lots saying ditch the large maps and move into non-seemless maps with zones just like FFXI if its going to lessen server load and remake the maps that does have the scenic changes while traveling the maps.

Some saying monster placements in the game is awful like east side of Uldah with lv40+ mobs, whats the fun in that? Getting levels and being able to travel to new places fighting stronger mobs on the way is more of an adventure than being able to fight those same mobs right outside cities.

Some saying if the caves are all going to be dead end and exact copy/paste to get rid of them since it's pointless.

Some saying its ok to use copy/paste, but they also saying this game is using way too much copy/paste on every area which causes this game's maps to be boring.

I can try to translate them but 160 is too much for me lol
