If you speed run Braflox HM (a primer on how to get blacklisted)

I don't care if you speed run it for tomes or not, everyone goes about getting their tomes a different way.

However, learn to beat the final boss before you out yourself as an utter chump in Roulette or DF.

I had a healer and BLM last night who managed to wipe us 3 times on the Gobmachine. The BLM was quite happy to bark instructions at me the whole run on how to pull, he was also quite happy to blast everything before hate was established, and then complain. Then we get to the final boss:

1st Wipe: Healer and black mage positioned themselves right behind the tank (me) and proceeded to get melted by the flame AOE, Wipe.
2nd Wipe: Bombs didn't get cleared fast enough going into last phase, Wipe.
3rd Wipe: Once again the healer and BLM manage to get themselves cooked by the flame AOE. Wipe

On all 3 runs we had plenty of DPS to avoid the last phase of this fight, yet this BLM who was so keen to rip hate off me during the run, didn't seem able to pump out enough DPS to avoid the big bomb.

After the run finished I get the whole "maybe you should just play DPS, it's obvious you're a bad tank". Pretty stunned my reply was "I've never actually wiped on that boss before, I don't think the problem is me". After that exchange he was promptly blacklisted.


tl;dr Don't be a chump in DF when you've been drinking your juice in Speed Runs.

The flame aoe comes after the bombs so as the tank it's your job to turn the boss away from the party. If they still ran into the front of the boss after that then yeah they are bad. Also lb at 15-20%

Why would run 2 more times with same group or am I reading that wrong. Personally after 3rd wipe I would've left and blacklisted from the chat afterwards.

No, it's everyone else's job to get the heck out of the way when you're in front of the boss. It's not complicated.

Erm no? 1 player moving is always better than 3.

It's your job as tank to position the boss... you pointed it at them not once but twice and expected a positive outcome? Which is the simpler task to accomplish.

a) Expecting two people to individually realize they are standing in the wrong position and move out of range of a fairly large cone shaped aoe attack they seem to know nothing about.

b) Flipping the boss around so the aoe isn't pointing at anyone.

I'm not saying these people are innocent... but you're no saint/genius in this situation either.

I'd have done so after the first wipe. That boss is a joke, I've seen healers go down to the first bomb wave and still cleared it...

This was in roulette, all 3 wipes during the same run. My main point was they were obviously very inexperienced at the boss encounter, yet the BLM had clearly done SR's a number of times. He brought the attitude of being a pro into the run, but failed hard when we got to the boss.

I was pointing it in a sensible direction. Let me re-iterate: this is the first time I've EVER seen wipes on that boss, from dozens of runs. I was not the problem.

Yeah, most DPS I get in DF do this well, this group did it once out of the three tries and forgot on the other two.


Anyway, lesson learned, I've been trying to give the "E" section of the population in my server group a chance in Roulette. It's not worth the stress of dealing with obnoxious people though, and I'm just going to revert back to "J/E/D/F".

Erm yes.

Everyone is responsible for themselves, and if you know a mob/boss has a cone or 360 AOE you should get out of the way just in the event something goes wrong. As someone who plays both a tank and DD role you should know this by now. Don't shrug all the responsibility off onto anyone single person as that is just bad teamwork.
