To be honest, food in this game sucks, the stat boosts are minimal and it seems to me it's more of a placebo that any real use .. something confirmed by SE's comments where they basically say they don't want people to feel like they're forced to use it.
Same for potions and the like, pitifully trivial buffs with stupidly long cooldowns.
Food is a nice boost. Not mandatory but you can feel the effects, specially if you survive something with 100 HP left ;)
About what is best for BLM or BRD I will let the ones that plays those classes advise you on that.
From what I read Critical food (eggs dishes) is often praised.
Potions have their uses (ether for a quick second flare or the 15s stat increase for dps race for example) but the biggest drawback is sharing the same cooldown.
And effect overwrites.
I find the potions you can buy with GC seals useful 3h spiritbond or 3hours durability. But only one active at the time. it seems. Didn't do further testing, just noticed I had only one of the bonuses.
The excuse about if they separate some cooldowns by categories then some jobs wouldn't be needed is nonsense..do healers just cure once every 2mn?
It's when you are pushing contents that they really come into place. It's the difference between world first or world second for hardcore high-end raiders or even beating a Coil turn or fail at it for normal people. If nothing, it's a nice 3% exp boost.
For bard, focus on crit (egg food). For black mage, focus on det/crit (mushroom food).
Thank you very much !
I dont play Blm but my Bard lives on Deviled Eggs and Apkallu Omelets depending on what i feel like cooking each week.
Since we on this topic, what does the (Max 1-99) mean? To the right of every meal name......
Not only this, but you should work out the math before buying certain foods. A lot of the high end foods, for example, have high caps but lower percentages, meaning that unless your gear is fantastic you will not gain the full benefit from the food. I use buttons in a blanket when accuracy is not an issue (I almost always have it covered from gear) and know that I receive the maximum crit bonus, but I get 1 point shy of the max for vitality and determination even at ilvl 93 (monk). I would, however, get the maximum bonus from HQ buttons because the max and % increase giving you better gains even with lesser gear.
