Rank 30 Weaver Quest -- "Dancing the Night Away"

While performing the rank 30 weaver's quest -- Dancing the Night Away -- you're supposed to convince 4 potential customers that Theldry's stall is totally rad. (The kids still say "totally rad," don't they? No? Maybe "tubular"? Well, you get what I'm talking about.)

After successfully parlaying with the customers, you go back and speak with Theldry to ask for those sweet dancing shoes (which I assume have the words "Disco Stu" emblazoned on the side). And Theldry responds:

Now, the "what" may be slang (although she wasn't exactly speaking like a pirate before that). But I suspect the "custom" must be laziness on Theldry's part. I mean, after all the business I just brought in, she could at least say the whole word "customer."

Come on, Theldry. Show some gratitude. All I'm asking is for one more syllable.

Good thing Square Enix's custom are proofreaders what notice these things. Hoh, yeah, Disco Stu likes disco diction.

These instances of "custom" and "what" are juuust a couple of archaisms/flavor-makers we and our 'ello gub'nah British editor are partial to. Yup, terminal preposition. That just happened. Seven hells take you, John Dryden! :mad:

The NSA SIGINT Style Guide also gives us this additional information (and who knew that the spooks had positions for grammarians?!):

(U) The alleged rule about ending sentences with a preposition was invented in 1672 by English writer John Dryden, who criticized such usage by Shakespeare, Ben Jonson, and others. Dryden apparently developed this rule because such a construction was not possible in Latin.

I hate the accents the npc characters have. I would rather have them voice-acting with an accent, then take out letters and make the sentence damn well hard to read and call that their accent . Like Baderon in the Limsa Adventure Guild I couldn't understand a single sentence he said.

Thanks, Eemeefu. I had no idea "custom" could mean "customer." I guess that's why you're the almighty localizer, and I'm just a mere, tiny-brained Highlander Hyur.

I can understand all the accents every npc speaks in and I'm american. I hate to say this but sometimes I just think it depends on what you've read in life. Being a fan of older british literature, FFXIV uses accents in exactly the same ways many older authors have portrayed similar accents. Just saying accents were portrayed in text before they were ever in video or cutscenes. If you were to read someone speaking in a cockney accent it would match up to out a lot of the limsans talk and such. It was explained in the "'ello gub'nah". In this text you're more likely to see an apostrophe representing a missed letter, and its usually an H lol.
