Yeah the exp with the Blue Icon all goes to your bird. And thank you SQ, I have wanted the option to jump on and off my bird without resummoning him. Such a simple yet amazing change. Thank you.

To think that I was just about to do the companion quest for the first time and was not looking forward to that annoying switching.

All these great mounts in the game though and I noticed you can't have a choco fight along side you and then mount your goobue. You should be able to ride any of the mounts with your companion summoned.
