macro icon system of 2.2

Now that I have to use /macroicon to get a specific skill icon, how do I pick a skill that isn't used on my current job? Because unless it's available or equipped as an Additional Skill, it's just showing up as the generic grey box on my action bar.

Right now all my old macros are currently fine, but I'm now scared to change them in any way, shape, or form. I really love macros. Halp :(

On top of that I also use Ability Icons for Marco Icons (to be displayed in the USER MACROS window, not on the hotbar/crossbar) to differentiate macros for different jobs/classes and I can also quickly tell what each macro does by assigning the macro icon to be the same as the first ability to be executed by the macro.

All of that is gone now. Your macros would have to use those new generic icons that tell you absolutely nothing about the 100 macro that you can create. You will have to hover over each macro to see what's what. At least make it consistent by making the Macro Icon in this macro editing window to be the same as the one assigned by /micon.

I too am afraid to edit the macros I created before 2.2. It's outrageous to remove features after a major update for no reason.

I think I understand the reason for the change; In the long run, the number of icon pages will exceed the window, but can we at least know if there are any plans for /macroicon to extended beyond just our current job when displayed on the hotbar/crossbar and what ChestBear said, on the User Macros window?

I hope this is a bug. It states in the patch notes that we could use the emote icons, but for some reason I'm unable to. I use /macroicon "Change Pose", and it will not show the change pose icon. Am I doing something wrong?

Edit: I guess I have to use /macroicon "Change Pose" emote. I guess I have to use /? more often. :p

1)I don't think that's a very good reason to remove a feature. MMO is supposed to expand over time and removing things to make room for new ones is not expanding.

2) We can have more than 10 tabs. This shouldn't be an issue. I know for sure that computers can store numbers bigger than 10, and maybe, to not exceed the screen space, we can use scroll bar (or left/right arrows) for the tabs if we don't want to display all 11 of em at once (you know the technique used since MS DOS).

3) Assuming we can never have more than 10 tabs for whatever reason (Maybe some dev at SE believes that if you have more than 10 tabs, Ramuh would smite the em) they can split it into 2 or 3 lists. Say when you click on the "Edit Icon" button for a macro, it first shows you pop up menu with 3 options like "Ability Icons" - "Emote Icons" - "Other Icons". And each of those options can give you 10 tabs of icons. Problem solved.

4) It was fine the way it was before. If its not broken, why mess with it? What problem the old macro icons list had that the new one solved?

In the end, I truly believe there is no technical difficulty in letting players choose from more than 250 icons (10x25). They can always expand the list one way or another.

As a recap, to add 100 useless generic icons, SE decided to remove 250 skill-specific icons to make some room. There is also a known side effect described by the OP, /macroicon can no longer display icons of skills your class can't use on the hotbar.

Same here. Macro icons missing. The old ones and the new ones are missing with the exception of a few old ones and new ones that are not skill/action icons.

What I know for certain is that this is not intended. It's either a bug or someone at SE forgot to put the macros back when the patch went live, because it listed all of the macro icons that could be usable in 2.2, which included all of the old ones plus tons of new ones. They're all gone now. When I click the M square to choose an icon over 75% of them are gone.

They actually removed it based on the patch notes.

I don't like it since it makes my macro window looks unorganized. I have to select the macro to check what is it for. It's not like before where I could figure it out by just looking at the icon.

I wanted to come in and voice my disappointment with the system. now when I /micon... its just a grey M box.

I really wish I could have a good way to sort them in the macro window.

This is pretty horrible with how it currently is if it is indeed a mistake.
It took me way to long to figure that I can't use icons from their list nor ones from off classes... My bars are now bland.
