Concern about the sluggishness of new content

It seems I'm the only person worried about how fast content is being created, patch 2.1 was pretty low on content considering the time it took to push out (4 months) when we were promised new content every three months. Now, I'm looking at the homepage of the lodestone and its saying the second "preview" for patch 2.2 is on March 21st which is around exactly three months since 2.1. At this rate its going to be another month or so for the patch to be released and that is not up to par with what was promised.

Its not so much as I'm angry that there isnt any new content, or anything like that, I just dont understand why you would promise a playerbase something knowing well that they nitpick things, only to not hold true to your word. One more late patch like this and we could have had an extra patch in the time that they were delaying releases.

At this moment if you're not clearing endgame content, you've probably already done it, or you've hit a brick wall in progression, so there isn't too terribly much to do, some of the stuff they added in 2.1 was just weak and had no lasting appeal to do (looking at you treasure maps). In essence, I'm worried more about long lasting appeal than the instant gratification of the patches, but if the patches continue to be late one after another then its not very satisfying

This game is only 7 months old. Give it time. We will get more within first year.

But I do understand that they could have just delay the release date of FF XIV ARR so they could add some more. But it is MMO game. Don't expect too much from it. That's why I don't play MMO games expect this.

Its only 7 months old, Yeah, but when we were promised new content every 3 months and we arent even on 2.2 yet, why make the promise? I know content takes time to develop and they dont just snap their fingers and its made, but really, I'd rather they tell us its going to be late than just not say anything and hope nobody takes notice that they are dragging their ass on their promises

I'm guessing you never played XI or know what SE MMO are like. Slow content was always the case. Ask anyone who played how long Wings of the Goddess took from start to finish....

Don't get me wrong as I'm not justifying it.

Just don't expect too much from SE, even if it is promised.

I shed a tear for XI of old and 1.23 on a weekly basis now.... (Off topic)

Shooting for 3 months is not the same thing as "promising the player base."

2.1 was just short of a month late, (8-27 to 12-17) likely due to the problems they didn't anticipate at launch.

2.2 is 3 months from 2.1. Jan 17 would be 1 month, Feb 17 would be 2, and March 17 would be 3. Estimated (by the playerbase) launch of 2.2 is March 25th, since 2.1 launched 3 days after a live letter as well. I'd say they are holding to what they were shooting for.

2.15 and 2.16 may not have brought new content, but there were significant QoL changes. It's not like they've been sitting on their thumbs.

Heck, 2.16 allowed for Chimera and Hydra to be accessed via Duty Finder. That's a huge thing for people attempting relic runs. They're not sitting on their hands here. They're constantly patching in new quality of life stuff into the game to make it less of a burden to play. That stuff is just as important as new dungeons and quests.

They did apologize for 2.1 being as late as it was and explained that inital response to the game was far greater than anticipated. They obviously weren't lying about it as they had add new servers, stop selling the game digitally, etc. 2.2 is right on track (relative to 2.1's release). It would be nice if they could get back to the initially anticipated schedule (that is, recover the lost month between 2.0 and 2.1), but 3 months should be acceptable as long as they can hit that mark.

Yah the last live letter set down the release of 2.2 as being March. The 25th makes perfect sense. As for 2.1...it brought plenty to the table, just a lot of people have written off PvP. 2.2 has me wondering though because so far it seems to have comparatively less content than 2.1. There so far isn't an analog to 2.1's Housing or PvP. Brand new dungeon, 2 HMs. New Primal. 2 new Extremes, New Story, 2 more beastman dailies, more Hildebrand, more Coil. All equivalent to additions made to 2.1 with this patch being a Coil patch instead of a CT patch. Nothing yet however that would be analogous to Housing or PvP. Hopefully there's some surprises in the Live Letter.
