Grass flickering/shimmering

Hello!

I'm new to the game and I'm loving it so far, although I have a minor annoyance. In outdoor areas, specially when moving, all the grass, tree leaves and vegetation in general starts to shimmer/flicker. It doesn't affect the gameplay at all, but the more I play, the more it annoys me. My question is, is this normal? I've done some google search and I've found that other people have the same issue, but so far without finding a solution.

I play on High (laptop) settings for FPS reasons, but I've also tried setting it to Maximum to no avail, the issue persists.

My technical specs are:

2,6 GHz Intel Core i7
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MB
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

Have anyone also encountered this issue? If so, do you know a way to solve it, or at least to reduce it? Thanks in advance for your help!

Try disabling anti-aliasing on transparent textures in your Nvidia Control Panel.

I just tried what you suggested, but unfortunately it had no effect whatsoever. :(

Have you tried adjusting Anisotropic or Mip-Mapping (may show up as LOD Bias control or other options)? Texture filtering in general may be getting weird at the driver level--there should be several options in that area. Settings in your graphics card control panel may simply be monkeying things up when they try to override the game settings. Might want to try manually setting them to Application Controlled (or test Performance vs. Quality if App. Control isn't available).

Oh.. another though. Take a look at your shadow settings in the game options. Sometimes the shadows cause a shimmering effect if the quality is set certain ways. Just a thought... perhaps it isn't the grass itself that is shimmering, but the shadow overlay. Noticed some cards didn't do well with the dynamic shadows (or whatever it was called) either--caused a strange striping or tearing effect.

I played around with the settings of several parameters in the Nvidia control panel to no avail (the ones that Raist mentioned too). Also, adjusting the shadow settings in game have proven futile. Do anyone else here have this issue? I'm running out of ideas here :(.

This is a result of how SE render their games, FFXI has the same problem, AA really isn't something they do well. Also, this game has horrible shadow handling at times, very pixelated.

If the problem were a result of some issue with the games rendering we'd all be experiencing it.

I guess I'll continue to play with configuration options at a driver level to see if I come up with the solution, and if so I'll post it here. Although if there is no possible solution to the issue I suppose I'll have to get used to it.
