Which brings me to the question: would they be able to start advanced classes at rank 1 when classes like paladins and red-mages already exist through ability-mixing? I hate to admit it, but I'd kinda miss leveling an advanced job from rank 1 to the cap... It gives you the feeling that the class is more unique when you learn to play it from the beginning; starting at rank 50 would make it seem like your old class--just with a few new abilities :/
Also, I like your idea of needing a combo of classes at certain ranks to unlock the jobs :) It seems very appropriate for matching advanced jobs to the dynamics of the current ability system!
