is there a way to set the fairies to obey without targeting a mob, because i used to be able to manually use embrace when the fairy was set to free mode but now i can't.
also, is there a way to make the fairy follow a specific person around?

No and No unfortunately, i do hope they go back to pets and give them a major overhaul.
Giving pets faster movement speed would be nice to so they don't take so dam long to "get over here" so i can cast aoe's on the party. What is also very annoying is when you tell her to "get over here" and on her way over stops to heal, geezus just get over here! Grrrr.
you can make a macro to target a mob or target the target of your tank
so that you can make her Obey/Steady/Heel in one button (time saver)
and no can't choose who to follow, need to use place and move her
those are not unavoidable AoE, so it is about the placement ?
Well you are lucky, at least you can put them in obey mode. Half the time even with a targeted mob, obey does not activate on mine, and it feels like every time I move her someplace, I have to put her back in obey mode.
Can't they just remove all those stupid useless stance and give us a right click (or whatever PS3 control equivalent) to allow automated casting of skills like, if I remember right, they do in WoW ? It would be way simpler and be way less of a pain than it is now.
I was noticing last night I was putting her in Obey mode, and it certainly calmed her down on Whispering Dawn, but I thought Obey was supposed to make it so she never used anything other than Embrace? It seemed she was still occasionally using Whispering Dawn on Obey without me even issuing the command.
