caps on all side quests and missions

like the title says, i'd like to see all quests and missions caped. for one thing most people don't get to them till they are absolutely too easy. fact most just 1shot there way threw them and done, the challenging part is not shooting youself in head for having to do all that running around to complete them.

if there were caps it would create a challenge for all of them, it could add lots of party play and maybe a solo level cap for it (but at it's most challenging for solo rank) though i prefer all party play.

besides them needing to add way more mini bosses to these, all of them would be so much more challenging an bring fun to it with just adding a cap to them. tyvm

Lv cap never is a good thing.

I will go the opposite of Lienn and say that I 100% agree. That's what made FFXI missions entertaining and always a challenge. Whats the point of outranking a mission and complete it with hardly a sweat or leeching a group of high rank in your LS.

Level cap is always a good thing. Promotes skills and challenge. If you find level capped missions too hard for you, then go learn to play some more or change your strategy. If a mission was capped at X rank, it means it was balance for X rank and doing it when you are 10-20 ranks above just destroy the purpose of it all.

As long as you mean "artificially leveled-down to the appropriate rank," and not "if you're r50, you can't do it at all," I suppose I can get behind this.

Yeah I think he meant level-down to the appropriate rank for X mission like in FFXI. Not being able to do the mission/quest after you pass a "cap" would not be really a good design :)

If level cap was good then they wouldn't have to remove it from CoP areas due complaints. Caps only works as negatively restricting people's gameplay.

If you worked hard to reach a certain rank, why not being able to use it? IMO this game has no place for cap...however, a voluntary level adjustment like happened in XI during level sync effect is another completely different situation...When the player choses to lower his rank in order to play with someone else or to do something at the "correct" rank is a thing...but forcing everyone to do this is terrible.

Any kind of level cap would bting much more trouble to this game than benefits (if there is any benefit at all).

Agree 100% with rank cap to create challenge in quests and missions, and it's even more doable in FFXIV since we do not have to care much about the gear since it's still equippable if you're artificially ranked down (which wasn't the case in FFXI, tho that might have been changed).

Well Lienn, I really hope they do put level caps in this game. For the 5 years I spent in FFXI (played for a few months after the ToAU release) I never, ever, heard someone whining about the cap. It was fun to have your gear sets for X and X rank cap and comeup with a strategy to overcome the foes in missions. CoP was hard and it was fun, if they did remove the cap now well I'm very sad to hear that and to know that people going through those missions for the first time will never experience the game as it was designed to be.

FFXIV already has many flaws and lack of content, if they design dungeons for rank 30 and some for rank 50, it will be boring as hell to have your rank 50 friend come clear the way for you in your rank 30 dungeons. I think I'm not the only one who thinks that and I think the majority would be for capped missions/dungeons.

Edit: for the gears thing, It was a hassle more than anything even if it was fun to have special gears for each level cap, but it was fixed so that the gears would "level cap" with you, so there is no reason not to do that in FFXIV as well.

Edit #2: Games like WoW are extremely boring when it comes to replay value. Once your char has out-leveled the content, the content is trivial and becomes a joke, you take lowbies through dungeons and everything is so easy it's boring as hell... I want FFXIV to be a challenge, I want to come out with strategies for bosses, not just : "I'll come back when I am 10 ranks over"

Well, if you only played until a few months after ToAU release then its expected from you to not understand what i'm talking about ^^: I'm talking about ToAU end/WotG start...when CoP collapsed and SE noticed extreme hardcore content is a bad thing. You have no idea how more enjoyable FFXI became after they started making it more friendly to non-hardcore players.

And about gear, obviously you guys don't want challenge at all if you plan using the optimal rank system as excuse for cap. you cannot offer challenge unless you expect the player to have at its best at that rank...which is not even close to be the case. Adding cap would just add more inventory burden to players, more programing problems to dev team and a big complaint list.

Also, why the heck would a r50 go to r30 dungeons? When you say its a dungeon raid its expected to people go there mainly to grind...would you invite a r50 to your r30 party? And would you r50 join a r30 party...or even go there solo since r30 dungeons are meant to be light party content so its perfectly soloable by a r50? Of course not. A r50 would go to r50 dungeons since i bet rewards would be way more interesting than soloing r30 content.

There are many other ways of adding challenge to a game...and lv cap isn't one of them. However, its like i said...having the option of players voluntary adjusting their own rank down to match some kind of content is another completely different thing...it does would be a good idea even to have new and old players playing together.

What you are talking about is level sync right? Also, why the hell would a level (rank term will change to level) 50 VONLUNTARILY adjust their level to let's say 40 so that a certain boss fight is a challenge? You know well enough that no one would do that and choose the easy route and stay level 50 to outlevel the content.

Also why would a level 50 go to a level 30 dungeon? Well because their LS friend are asking for help? Because someone if paying them to take them? Imposing a cap would make every run a challenge, you would never outlevel the content. Even years later when you go help a new player, you are still faced with a challenge. When there is no cap, each expansion and new content just make the last content outdated and a waste of time.

And level-sync is not the topic of this thread, it's about quests and missions.

Oh and I did come back a few months when they released WoTG, still maybe you could enlighten me as to what don't I undertand about them removing the level cap instead of just say "its expected from you to not understand what i'm talking about ^^" and not give a simple explanation.

As for gears, if you played FFXI so much, you should know that with level-sync they introduced that the gears are adjusted (and the stats too) with your level. Also, in FFXIV even if you wear a rank 50 gears and you are rank 30, the stats you gain from it are riddiculous.
