Mimics, where are they?

All of the chests in this game and not a single Mimic to be found.

In a dungeon there should be something like a 10% chance upon opening a chest to spawn a Mimic sub boss that awards loot with the ilvl for that dungeon and 30 myth/philo.

It would give people more incentive to full clear an instance and get all the chests for that chance at more loot.

I remember in the FF11 days of being a Thief and picking a lock only to spawn a Mimic and have it pull you in when you try to run away.

It just seems weird that there are no Mimics at all in this game.

I believe the Treasure hunts spawning guarding monsters replicates "Monster in a Box" of FF legacy. True Chest mimics have generally belonged to other RPGs.

I've been eaten by plenty of Mimics in FFXI, they're a staple of FF games as well because almost every FF game has a mimics along side "Monsters!" FFIX in Brumecia is a good example when you're looking for that specific item >.>.

Mimics did not exist in FF1, FF3, FF4, FF5, FF6, FFT for sure. Monsters in a box have but they never look like Carnivorous Treasure chests. I haven't played (to completion at least) but am willing to bet they also don't exist in FF7, FF8, or FF13. I know they existed in FF2, FF9, FF10, FF11, I played a Thief after all, and FF12. But non-carnivorous chest monsters in a box also existed in those games.

In contrast, Breath of fire had mimics in games 1-3 at least, though most of the times they'd even be regular enemies rather than trapped chests. Lufia and Mario RPG had them as miniboss chests. Dragon Quest has had mimics as trapped chests in nearly every game, Dungeons and Dragons has them of course, they made them. Ragnarok Online has them as roving monsters. Thus my point that they belong to other RPGs much more than they belong to Final Fantasy.
