My favorite answer:
Read the whole thread, though. Lots of good stuff.
If you want lore, click on Nahara's link. If you want a possible etymology:
Θαυματουργός,-ου [thaumatourgós, ou.] Possibly 2nd declension (miracle-worker, magician). Portmanteau of θαύματος "miracle, wonder" (genitive form) and ἔργον "work" (nominative form.) Derived from- θάομαι - (to admire, contemplate)
Related words
1.θαυμάζ-ω "Ι am astonished, I am amazed" < θαυμάζειν (to be amazed.)
2. θεάο-μαι "Ι watch, I observe" (deponent.) The word "theater" comes from "θέατρον", which means "show, spectacle, gathering place."
I hope this helps!
What is a Thaumaturge?
Tis but a miserable pile of Lallafell!
They steal baked goods and make them into crumbs.
Perhaps the same could be said of all Disciples of Magic.
