My favorite answer:
Read the whole thread, though. Lots of good stuff.Thaumaturgy is the magic of raw energy. It draws forth the aether of one's own wellspring and by regulating their aether in the astral and umbral polarities, are able to channel the latent aether of the world (and void - BLM) through themselves and into an expression of energy. This takes the form of electrical currents, burning heat, or the icy absence there of.
If you want lore, click on Nahara's link. If you want a possible etymology:
Θαυματουργός,-ου [thaumatourgós, ou.] Possibly 2nd declension (miracle-worker, magician). Portmanteau of θαύματος "miracle, wonder" (genitive form) and ἔργον "work" (nominative form.) Derived from- θάομαι - (to admire, contemplate)
Related words
1.θαυμάζ-ω "Ι am astonished, I am amazed" < θαυμάζειν (to be amazed.)
2. θεάο-μαι "Ι watch, I observe" (deponent.) The word "theater" comes from "θέατρον", which means "show, spectacle, gathering place."
I hope this helps!

What is a Thaumaturge?
Tis but a miserable pile of Lallafell!
They steal baked goods and make them into crumbs.
Perhaps the same could be said of all Disciples of Magic.
