The Calamity Salvager NPC has been changed as follows:

Gear introduced during the Hatching Tide seasonal event is now available for purchase.
Gender-specific gear introduced during seasonal and collaboration events can now be exchanged for gear of the opposite gender.

A similar problem I had in the past;

Where I swapped from a female > male character, meaning I couldn't access my seasonal items, so I ended up swapping back (for other reasons).

Now that Phials of Fantasia are being offered in the near future again, i'll (like some others i'm sure) will be making a return to a male charachter.
(Others may be swapping male > female | female male, the same issue occurs)

I'm sure I'm not the only person who has considered this, where-in we can only obtain ONE set of gear for the Lightning Returns Event, which means missing out on picking up the male gender-gear set (or vice-versa).

With a game offering multiple chances for your gender to change, I feel this is a grave over-sight and although these items are cosmetic they're a 'one-off' thing. Once the quest is completed and Phials of Fatasia are finally offered in the future, my inventory (along with many others) will suffer a -4 block of useless icons with these gender locked items.

The summer event easily offered both genders, why can't this one?

(Perhaps when it returns in February, the gear can be offered via the vendor towards the end of the event?)

Yukata's [Lady / Lord Set]
Swimwear [Event+Veterans Reward]
Lightning Event [Guardian / Bohemian Set]

TL;DR

Please consider offering both gender sets of items for the Lightning Returns event (as well as previous Seasonal Events), or at least some form of exchange system where-in, so that if a phial of Fantasia is used we're not missing out on the other gear set.

5th April 2014 :: Additional Edit ::

With the addition of the Calamity Salvager's "Item Reattainment", currently 1.23 items are missing, but even more strangely the Lighting Returns Event gear is missing, yet all the other 1.23 events seemingly remain.

So the possibility of the addition for the Lighting Returns Gear-set(s) and weapons becoming increasing more reasonable, I'd like to also point out that gender-locked gear isn't an issue any-more as both gender sets are now available via the salvager (see below for proof)

The quest CAN'T be re-done, hence the reason i've made an entire thread about it.

The event will be repeating in Feburary, the quest won't (if you're already done it).

Seeing as the quest is the only way to obtain the gear, of course i'm butt hurt about it.

I've never understood the purpose behind gender locked items anyways. Unique* ideas aren't always good, and this is a good example of a bad one. It's just an extra set of items that need to be added to the game. It's not even like the stats are any different.

*They had this in FFXI, and it kind of made sense a little bit with the RSE quests, but even in that case it would have been easier to just have a single item.

I feel like I should inform you that this event will be repeated when lightning returns comes out in the US- so if you change genders before then, you'll be able to obtain the other set.

I'm kinda scratching my head at how you changed genders once and already want to do it again. Why can't you settle one one or the other?

Well, I was very happy with my male highlander.

Then one night when I was drinking rather heavily, Square Enix sent another Fantasia to my mog-mail, with a loud DING.
As the night progressed, I somewhere along the line apparently thought i'd change into a cat, which at the time must've been great fun for, because I woke up the next day to a female Miqo'te on the log in screen and I've had to deal with it since.

But I've seen nothing that suggest the quest will be repeated, just the FATE's.
If the quest would be re-triggered then surely people would end up with two sets of gear (the same problem with the AF quests).

They specifically stated the event would be repeated. The ps4 version will be in beta by then and the ps4 players deserve a chance to get the gear.

The AF quests and gear don't differ by gender. The male and female Lightning gear are all seperate items with different names. It checks your character's gender when you take the quest, otherwise it wouldn't know what to show as the reward.

I understand you being cynical, but i'm not talking out my behind here.

The event will be repeated, but unless they make the quests repeatable or make a second version the quests will still be flagged as completed on your character and thus preventing a player from getting a second set of gear.

Of course the quests will be repeated. They're not going to have another event and not let people participate in it. I know we like to rag on square enix but give them a little credit.
