Why are we unable to send private messages to other forum users?

Why are we unable to send private messages to other forum users?

Specifically speaking I feel we should be able to send private messages to the forum admins.

Most games I've played prior allowed you to have a more direct line to the DEVs / CSR's

It feels like our only contact with them is when we achieve a 50+ page thread.

Thoughts?

No offense, but I don't want the ability to receive messages from other forum users. It would get abused by people thinking the mods can't see what they say since it's not publicly viewable. It just opens the door to harassment.

Punish the many because of the few? Some good logic there.

Good thing you didn't start Facebook LOL :) .... no but seriously there are things like "Report" functions that allow for the weeding out of "undesirables"

Is it punishment? They've taken nothing away. It's a preventative measure. Maybe you don't read as many of the threads on here as I do. Most of them turn downright ugly very quickly, imagine if people could say things in a less public way. SE would need 5 times the number of forum mods just to keep up with banning people.

Reporting private messages would be the same thing as reporting threads... Once you report something it sends a brief description to a forum admin on which they can take appropriate action.

Hmm.. SE bans people on forums faster than in-game for gil selling. Somehow that is pretty amusing to me. Way to set your priorities there SE!
