At the begining levels of XIV we get a few quests here and there to introduce us to characters in the main city and show us where certain landmarks are. We get reintroduced to characters from 1.0 and meet new characters as well. But by level 15 we no longer have a reason to be in the main cities for longer then one or two quests before running off to fight all the big bads and do quests in the outer regions of the world map.
I'd really love to see it if SE added a bunch of sidestory quests in the main towns that are only available after level 30, 40, and 50 respectively. Giving the players chances to do things that teach them more about the NPC's in the main town. Even things like getting Quests directly from the head's of their home town.
Quests that really do nothing for the world as a whole but help enamor players to the cities they've chosen as their home. This was one of the things I loved about FFXI. It seemed like no matter what level you were, there were quests in the main towns that introduced you to new npc's or taught you more about the history of the planet and the country you were visiting or calling home.
I kind of miss that.

Some options I could see being viable are things like helping the Guildmasters of each of the crafting and gathering guilds get things done that don't pertain to their particular Guild members, or would help their guild members but can't be done as a crafter/gatherer.
For instance>
Things like this would be entertaining and add more life to the main cities letting you fall in love with characters you might know but not really have had a huge chance to do things with. They would also give players a chance to get unique weapons and armor from non-dungeon areas.Code:At level Thirty, Sisipu offers any DoW/M a quest to help her route out a vicious monster that has been indiscriminately attacking the members of her guild when they are fishing along the coast. Through the process of a few cutscenes and micro instances you follow her around the areas outside Limsa. She proceeds to start fishing while telling you stories about what happened during and right after the Calamity. Telling you more about how the fishing guild helped in clean up and repair of their fair city.
The first few micro instances end when you kill small pugil's she fishes up that are between level 20-25. But she claims these are not the pugil's she's looking for.
The last micro instance she pulls up a giant version of a Pugil with a unique name and appearance. It attacks her knocking her down and you step in to fight it. When you defeat it she takes it back to the fisher guild.
On arrival in the fishers guild to turn in the quest she offers you a choice of different weapons that she claims she found inside the fish when they were prepping it for the Culinary guild and you get your choice of different unique weapons.

I like this idea, and hope/expect it to happen as each patch is released.
With all the thought they've put into how things intertwine, I fully expect to see added side quests with each patch, and some not insignificant pieces of lore thrown in to them.

I like this idea :) I hope they add in more side quests in future patches. It would be really cool if our improved notoriety as adventurers gave us access to new parts of the cities and new quests and NPCs to talk to in the main cities.

More quests sounds great to me! I hope as the game gets older we will start to see more Lore based quest lines.

10-17-2013, 11:24 PMCairdeasI do too, Especially around the cities. I'd love more chances to work with Lady Admiral Merlwyb in defending the Shores and Sea's from Pirates. Even so far as to have actual fights on the ocean where you have to board a pirate ship with her and take out various nefarious foes.
