Not the cute catboy, no. The elezen with the grumpy old man face gets the comms, cause he makes the heals.

A couple months ago I saw a person on the forums talking about an experiment they ran. They created 2 alts, a male and female tank and kept everything the same for both except gender. They leveled the alts to 50, primarily through dungeons to see how many comms each would get. The female alt had about 20-30% more comms; I don't remember the exact amount but it wasn't an insignificant difference.
So just to be positive and prove I'm not a completely bitter, crazy cat lady, I'll tell a nice story.
Amdapor Keep HM, party composition was MCH, MCH, SCH, and WAR, I believe. Definitely double MCH. Now, I'm not very good or experienced with MCH, so I'm thinking this might be slower than usual, but hardly impossible.
The whole run, start to finish, took 20 minutes. The SCH was barely DPSing, but trash was melting like butter anyway, and I haven't seen such a smooth run of this dungeon in weeks. We finished up the Demon Walls room with 90 seconds to spare, and the final boss' growing AOE barely covered half the room before all the adds were dead. I didn't even know I had such DPS potential in me as MCH.
One thing I have learned is that if MCH wants to they can turn themselves into a pack melting rapid fire howitzer by using Reload, Rapid Fire, Hawk's Eye, Raging Strikes, Blood for Blood, Bishop Autoturret, Grenado Shot, and Quick Reload.
That is 6 shots of 140 potency AoEs with +30% damage, +16% attack power, supported by the extra 60 potency attacks every 2-3 seconds. If you got 2 MCH doing that most mob packs will be utterly melted into slag.
Okay... honestly I don't know where these DRKs are coming from but lately every time I run EX roulette and get a DRK as a tank they dont use Darkside at ALL and to top it all off use no CDs.
The only time they do is when we do a boss fight and after that they remove it again
Just had a run today on Sastasha HM with yet ANOTHER one. Everyone was 60 except for our BLM (I was on sch) and the tank drk knight was pulling a single mob at a time, it felt like foreeeveeerrrrr :(
Yesterday done Mhach with my new raid group as our first raid.
Was made into Mt and all went smoothly.
We wiped just once against the megadead one due to another group failing their add and were killed by genkidama and once against ozma, our group was all healthy when the other two were wiped out.
2ND time we nailed it. And last boss was easy peasy.
Some people were a little salty since I use warrior of light - quote - macros for my buffs but that's it.
Went into A8 for the first time in a while today trying to get tokens to gear up an alt job I want to start using (MCH), and had the worst party I have EVER seen in A8. Worst part is, they knew the mechanics and still fucked them all up every time.
Was in a Void Ark a few nights ago where the tanks in other alliances kept pulling ASAP, locking my party's tank out at wolves and at Echidina.
At wolves, I declared I was going to tank our party's wolf. As a Bard. I somehow ended up successfully doing it, to the shock of everyone else in the party. Though I had to blow Blunt Arrow early in an attempt to keep aggro and got the whole alliance's eardrums blown out as a result.
At Echidina, I had trouble finding the add that didn't have a tank to aggro to, so I wasn't able to tank that one. But as soon as Echidina re-formed, I somehow rip aggro off of the tank and proceeded to get cleaved in half.
:(
*sobs in a corner*
My boyfriend plays a female character and I think his character is much better than looking than mine (I suppose mine is more "cute", but his is definitely more unique).
The funny thing is, whenever we do dungeon content, he generally gets most of the commendations. It's usually 8-man party content where I seem to get more love than him.
It's very hard to tell what everyone's contributions really were to the group. Especially as they get bigger xD I find myself very often on a chat with friends going "so uh, who do you think did well?" Unless someone does something obviously outstanding (and sometimes that doesn't even get attention), people pretty much go, "oh hey, that person's name looks nice" or "oh hey, that's a pretty character" ._.
So now story time. Did WCoM yesterday... twice. Healed for both. First time went great, no wipes and my party specifically contained 3 new to the dungeon (which included our tank and other healer). Even better, we were just doing awesome (even though I was doing a horrid job explaining mechanics in the voice chat... I'd be like... "oh yea, watch out for ___" while it was happening...).
However, after finishing up, two of us didn't get any drops, so we queued up again... without repairing our gear... whoops. Went into the raid with less than 50% on all my gear... and of course, I die on the first trash mob due to an AoE in the cluster of holy's that were being set off. Unfortunately, we wiped a few times as well... which means my gear is just doing dandy at this point xD. We get to ozma and 2/3 of the way through, all my healing accessories break... and since we're still fighting, I can't switch them T_T I was spamming out the heals like crazy (which even without any accessories, was still getting medica II for 2000... it coulda been worse. Now the really bad part... I had no replacement accessories for healer... Nothin. I apologized to my party and was preparing to leave, but they asked me to stay and just switch to any other accessory; that it'd be fine. So, the only other accessories I had were... my tank ones... Next thing you know, I got a 20k hp WHM. Good news... I survived every mechanic I failed to avoid because of my massive hp pool and I still healed like a boss (just maybe a bit more medica spammy than I usually am). At the end while we were waiting for the loot rolls to finish, one of my party members said, "you bring a whole new meaning to heal tanking". :D
Generally I pay attention to choose who will give commendation when finishing dungeon.
Yesterday was easy choice.Roulette leveling gave me The Vault. Tank doing big pull and bard without using Wanderer's Minuet. Then I gave commendation for melee dps.
So i'll share this wonderful experience that just happened to me.
So I've been doing a lot of my roulettes as a tank to try and get some bonus gil. And I queue for my Trial, it pops in progress, and no surprise it's Niddy. But as luck would have it I was the only missing party member. We had a warrior and i figured they would want to OT, with me MTing; I'm a DRK. But they wanted to, no biggie. So the fight starts and i point out he has no stance on, and 2 DPS die, not a big deal right? Well he says that it was his bad and we should wipe. and evey one is saying, "no, there is no reason to wipe". Well we wipe cause at that point he's not tanking. We try again and because of bad placement we wipe again, fun? Some people leave and some get in. I step up and say I will MT now and that everyone needs to focus, we trust the healers (that will come back to bite me in the ass). So I am MTing all is going great until the Add phase where neither healer is healing, kinda. well we wipe again, and one healer blames the other for not healing while they were DPSing. I point out that Niddy is a Heal intensive fight and you must trust your co-healer but don't rely on them, ie if you see them low on MP switch to help heal. Well that didn't happen. the last run we did was going okay, but that same healer just wanted to DPS, and told the other healer they better use Assize or Shroud to recover MP. and on top of that in the middle of the fight the OT tank switched stances and wanted to MT. And when I asked why they switched, they said I died, I didn't die. My PS4 even has the video recorded. Needless to say they abandoned. But OMG why does no one listen. I know the, Hard Mode, fight from both a Healer and Tank roles, but neither wanted to listen. Shout out to the one healer who was doing their job though. You Rocked!
Yeah, remove Gauss Barrel, replace Grenado Shot with the... other AoE skill I can't recall ATM, and that's what I do for big pulls as a MCH. I try to keep up sustainable AoE damage, hence using the other skill because it uses less TP, even if it has less potency, and I pair all this with Invigorate.
Not level 52 yet on my MCH, and the mentioned dungeon is level 50 content so I only mentioned skills one would have at level 50 including cross class skills. Blood for Blood (+10% damage) and Raging Strikes (+20% damage) combined is a 30% damage boost.
Now if I had Gauss Barrel it would be a 60% damage boost.
I prefer Grenado shot over Spread Shot if I am working with another hard hitting AoE class and aim to do as much burst damage as possible. Spread Shot is definitely better if going to have to deal with a large pack of durable enemies for better sustain.
Ended up in my first real 50+ trial last night as a healer... first King Mog then Ravana. My swift rez macro seemed to mess up on King Mog so didn't do too well on that one, but overpowered DPS, good tanks and the other healer got us through it at least!? >.< was a bit embarrassed. Then Ravana I think I did a little better, only one person died that we could rez, the others were dead due to falling off so not going to count that as a failure on my part. Stressful though!
Then had usual quick Praetorium for MSQ roulette, managed to fall through the elevator though...!?
I did Wiping City earlier this week and had no problems. Other than my Alliance wiping to Ozma's Meteors (most where not that bright) it went smoothly. Also I won the minion with a 99 roll. I felt proud c:
To be fair, if I saw that Ozzy Osbourne was healing me in a dunjin, I'd probably give him a comm too.
I had the most special run of Castrum Meridianum ever yesterday. Featuring, in no particular order:
- A WHM who regularly went AFK and left the other WHM to heal, then let said other WHM die, refused to ress him, and got praised for "good healing".
- A DRG, who didn't know how to get off the cannons, and who never once used Heavy Thrust, to my knowledge.
- A BLM who started out seemingly fine, then mysteriously devolved into using Fire II on bosses and then started Umbral maging.
- A newbie SMN, who never once used a single DoT.
I was the MCH. At the first set of cannons, I was the only person in the party using one. At the second set, the DRG got locked out of the boss fight because they didn't know how to get off the cannons. At the very final boss, I decided to see what would happen if I just spammed Hot Shot over and over, no buffs.
I ended up in the #3 spot for aggro. Every time DF gives me the tiniest bit of hope with a good party, it then tears that hope down with parties like these.
Ran the gates of judgement for the MSQ a good while ago and I was doing solid, mistimed 1 sneak attack got caught in an ability and ALMOST died, off tank start complaining about "idiot ninja in front of the boos" using one of my stronger attacks for a split second. Also used the level 3 limit break (which saved the entire run from certain failure) same tank called me and idiot since it was HIS lb.... some people... >.>
The ending was cinematic as hell, he was gearing up his last breath and he goes down at the last second.
Got asked in Sunken Temple why I wasn't interrupting Final Sting..as a bard that doesn't get their interrupt until level 42. They didn't believe me o.0
Personally, it may cause me to lose a bit of damage, but when I'm using aoe in a dungeon, I'll promote rook to help keep my tp up so I can aoe longer, and hypercharge it if there is one more trash pull before the boss. Though this also tends to lead to one of my biggest grievances in dungeons, physical dps do not seem to know that they have good aoe they can use. In my 60 roulette today i got ARF and the tank wanted to make things quick so he would pull till he hit a wall each time so we had a minimum of 5 enemies per pull until the part between the 2nd and 3rd boss, the ninja would put down doton, and use none of his other aoe abilities, although at least he would goad me. In 50 roulette today I had another mch who put down bishop, but wouldnt aoe except for one large trash pull.
This actually happened to me yesterday.
I queued up for Mentor Roulette and I got Odin. Both our tanks were new, but I know tanking in Odin isn't too bad so I wasn't worried. I explained to them about the big AoE and the tank buster. None of the DPS said they were new and the WHM was a well-geared level 60 and I was on my SCH. So I was feeling really confident. To make the WHM's life easier, I summon Selene to Esuna the bleed 'cause I know double bleed really sucks.
The fight starts up and the MT isn't popping CDs. I'm burning through Lustrates on him like crazy 'cause even though my shield he's getting down to <50% HP. Selene Esuna's the bleed and all looks like it's gonna be okay. Then the second bleed comes out and I Succor... and Succor... and Succor... and then the tank dies... and I have no MP. The WHM is sitting at 100% HP casting Cure I on themselves.
We wipe. I tell the tank to pop CDs during the bleed phase, the other tank purposes tank swapping. We go again. So the OT is provoking mid-cast after I Adlo the MT and then getting 1shot. I look at his gear. FULL STR ACCESSORIES. He has less HP than most of the DPS. Considering he's mostly i100, I assume he's a suuuuper old player and doesn't have the Poe to get i130 Fending stuff, hence why he's in Odin for the first time. I ask him to wait until the other tank takes the hit before voking because I'm getting my shield on him because he has aggro.
Tank swapping is going alright, maybe we can do this. And then we get to the bleed phase again. Selene Esuna's once more and I succor and everything is dandy until the 2nd bleed comes out. I'm standing in the middle of the room, spamming my only AoE heal, watching this WHM Cure I themselves and occasionally the MT and not throwing out a single Medica or Medica II or Regen. We can't even clear the phase because I can't keep all the DPS or the MT up and we wipe... again.
I ask the WHM to AoE heal in the bleed phase and pop out Eos, hoping it would help. Even though Eos is helping me barely keep people alive through the first bleed, as soon as the 2nd one comes out I cannot handle solo AoE healing and everyone dies again.
We've been in this run for nearly an hour at this point, wiped at least 7 or 8 times. We're not getting past bleeds at all. Someone leaves, so I follow suit. I uncheck in-prog queue and requeue for Mentor Roulette right away... I get the same 2 tanks, same co-healer, and the same 3 DPS (aside from the one who left). I didn't even wait for everyone to finish loading in, I just left.
[EDIT] AND THEN. 30 minutes of GS events later, I re-queue (not in-prog) for Mentor Roulette AND I GET THE SAME PARTY. I eat another 30 minute penalty and decide to go PvP. >.<
Reading through this thread has been a major source of entertainment for the last couple of weeks at work. Yes, it seriously took that long. Totally worth it for the knowledge tidbits as well! So, thanks, all, for making it entertaining and enlightening.
A few months back, I was screwing around on an alt character and got to Tam Tara. I'm on LNC, with an ARC, CNJ, and GLD in party. All four are sprout characters, likely the archer and conjurer are alts as well. The gladiator never said a word, never used flash, and never shifted targets until his was dead. The archer tried a couple of times to get him to use flash, but that seemed to fall on deaf ears. Naturally, other mobs would then start beating on the healer because of heals. The archer and I would break off and try to pull mobs off the healer. It was a rough dungeon. Healer got my comm, and I got someone's, so I must have done something right.
Last night, did leveling roulette as my SCH with the wife's SMN and got paired with a MCH and a sprout GLD in Tam Tara. I swear, I thought she was an alt character until she said she was new. Lost aggro twice, total, once to my early heals or Eos getting too much enmity on one of the summoned demon things, and once to my wife's carby beating on one of the imps. Considering the limited toolset of gladiator at that level, she did really well, marking targets and keeping hate. Shoutout to that MCH from Balmung for being awesome and letting the newbie tank control the pace to her comfort, I thought you two were premade until I looked you both up!
I have been in Odin with healers that just stand there doing absolutely nothing. One time I told the healer to help me heal and they did one cure, went back to doing nothing. So I decided not to do anything as well. The tank died from the tank buster and I was like maybe if I had help healing! And then they left. Guess they didn't want to be carried...
I don't claim to be a great bard but I like to think I'm competent.
I had read up on mechs but sometimes it takes me a few tries to get the hang of things.
Chieftan Moglin - it seemed every time I knocked a moogle out a circle one of the other three was already targeting it so ended up back in one, we wiped then cleared next time.
Flying Horse that I have forgot the name of - First time my Vun stacks weren't that bad, got one mech wrong we wipe, clear second time but I major derped on more than one mech and had 5 stacks of vun, was trying to read guide to confirm how I could do better, next podium I'm vote kicked.
They were a French premade trio from Shiva, now I know I wasn't great but I said hi 1st time,no response apologised about my errors no response, my FC only has a couple of endgame players at the moment and none were online to help me through, its not as if it was taking a huge amount of time timer was still at 70 mins, my DPS was good I was playing foe's and getting more aggro than the BLM, I even had to rotate targets occasionally to let the PAL get it back, this was just really frustrating to end up with a group that does not allow anyone to learn and make mistakes, If anyone lands them again I hope there perfect, SCH had Selene up constant.
I had a Sunken Temple of Qarn run 2 or 3 nights ago that started poorly and ended... pretty awesome actually.
The group started with a Marauder (yes, you read that right), a DRG, a SMN, and me as WHM. To say the tank was bad would be a understatement. Not trying to keep the mobs on them, standing in avoidable attacks. The DRG ended up tanking the first boss when the marauder went down and released before I could rez them. While we did manage to beat the first boss, the DRG leaves out of frustration, not that I blame them, than the tank "DC's", leaving the summoner and me.
Now for the awesome part: A MNK joins as I ask the SMN about continuing while waiting. They bring out Titan-Egi to tank, and the three of us go on our way to clear the place out with one one death (mine) due to a moment of stupidity. By the time we got a replacement tank, we were already working on the last boss, so they could only watch the three of us bring it down.
On AST, Cutter's Cry.
I get the most dreaded Tank of all.
A GLD who only knows how to Fast Blade, stun, and does not listen to a word you say.
I tried to vote kick him, cause an FC mate came on who could tank for us.
But because the tank was a new player he did not get vote kicked.
I healed my heart out through lag, I got to see a DRG and BRD player who somehow instinctively knew how to tank swap (which they did, at every boss). The BRD would play Mage's Ballad for me during boss fights, though I would still go OOM from all the debuff cleansing and healing spam I had to do.
Of course there were some deaths, due to lag screwing me over several times. But somehow, somehow we got through that dungeon.
Both DPS gave me a commendation and one of them told me I did a very good job as healer all things considered.
Got Nidhogg for Trial on my drg, 2 bards and a ninja. I was the only one alive on adds after 4 attempts. I ate the 30 minute and went for a walk.
So my dualshock, the only pc compatible controller in the house, absolutely refuses to work with FFXIV now. Which is weird, considering the pc recognises the inputs just well. A day of driver reinstalling and trying everything under the sun to no avail, i... ugh, settled for keyboard and mouse.
Thinking I'd better end up in the cold water, I dragged out my long abandoned bard (my former main, at that), with its ilevel 205 and went into 50 roulette with 3 friends. aside from autorunning into several walls and not being able to switch it off for a few secs everything went... okay? Abysmally bad damage, but it was just with friends.
It got scary when we went for MSQ. Praetorium.
Great, just fantastic. I can barely target as is, and even on ps4 with a controller I got left behind on the terminals when I went there the first time, and still struggle.
So I lag behind. Miraculously, I never once die or get stuck at a terminal because I cant target it with that shitty mouse control. It's a summoner and two blms, so using foe doesn't make my horrible playing stand out that much - I'm doing SOMETHING, a'ight?
Hell, I even learned to (somewhat) dodge aoes during Ultima phase 1! Only to eat basically everything under the sun in phase 2.
I walked out with a commend. Was that a pity or a foe commend? I dunno. All I really got was finger cramps and the infernal urge to slam my fist through the screen. And amazon ain't helping because the day I buy a xbox controller is the day I deinstall ff14 or am laid to eternal rest. This and my non constant access to my ps4 are gonna make for... an interesting week.
I apologise to the people who saw me run in weird lines and basically not move during Prae. I am not good at this, I tried and all I got was intense finger cramps orz
Recent experiences in the DF are turning me into a fantasy racist.
I am convinced that under every circumstance, without exception, all male Miqo'te are either:
a) Complete tools
b) Complete dumbasses
c) Both of the above
Does anyone want to prove me wrong on this? D:
oh man you guys aren't going to believe this it's so crazy.
okay I went into a brand new content instance and there were ppl who didn't know exactly what to do at every point of the instance.
I meant come on this has been out for like two weeks already can you believe those scrubs???
I was attempting to be exceedingly sarcastic because I constantly see people complaining about wiping the day after a patch and blaming other ppl
you not being able to tell kills my soul a little. who hurt you dear? a savage raider I'm guessing
