My brain is just experiencing a 404 error trying to understand why people keep coming back to the 1-2-3 combo thing when no one is asking for it, no other discipline of magic uses 1-2-3 combos other than a single part of Red Mage's rotation that is specifically designed to imitate a melee DPS, and no healer has ever had a 1-2-3 combo back when they had more DPS options. I feel like I need to find a brain-eating parasite to take a chunk out of my cerebral cortex so that I can better understand the perspective that leads to that assumption that what people are asking for are 1-2-3 combos.Quote:

I have seen 1 person ask for a 1-2-3 combo for WHM. But they haven't been around for a while, so I honestly don't know why people seem to think all we want is a rigid 1-2-3 combo rotation.

About the only time a 1-2-3 combo on a healer would make sense is if one of them took a page out of RDMs book and had a short melee phase. Even then it's still 2 hotbar slots too many that it takes up, I'd rather go the Gnashing Fang route and condense it.

Ok, Ty. I got a little confused since my response was just above, but it seems I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I can only imagine the 1-2-3 combo popping up so much since it has been drilled into our brains so hard with pretty much every melee having it to some capacity. The fact that only RDM has it and not healers might of come as a surprise.
If we were to get a new healer, a melee concept probably would be the likely avenue to explore for something different. The healers tend to center themselves relative to everyone else anyhow and the melee spots are sometimes pretty close to the center alignment. Hmm, but the best candidates for the class name are already taken with Paladin and Monk. Geomancer and Chemist likely wouldn't make sense either. It pretty much leaves the Druid left by shape shifting into animals like dire wolves, tigers, bears, dragons, etc. -

reading over this thread just reminds me that it's honestly very jarring to be in two video game communities that both have wildly different opinions on DoTs.
ask any Honkai Star Rail player and they'll go crazy over them because they're addicted to DoT damage that much. XIV? good luck convincing anyone that DoTs should exist. -

BRD is actually a great example, for demonstrating that we don't need 1-2-3 combos, but priority system CDs as a healer. Let's imagine BRD is a healer, and as such, only has it's basic GCDs to worry about. No songs, no OGCDs like Sidewinder or Empyreal, just two DOTs, Refulgent procs, and Burst Shot. It manages its two DOTs timers, it spends Refulgent procs, it uses Burst Shot as filler if nothing else is available. If it had to drop it's damage, to heal with a GCD, then it would do so, then consult it's priority list for what to do next: most of the time, the GCD replaced would be a Burst Shot. However, in the instances where that healing required lined up exactly with a DOT refresh, or Refulgent proc spend, then those simply get shunted down the fight timeline by one GCD, and whatever was in the next GCD gets shunted down by one GCD, etc, until you reach the point where Burst Shot, the weakest skill and the 'filler' of the rotation, is the thing that is pushed off of the end of the fight timeline. However, you also have the possibility opened up for other choices, such as refreshing the DOTs one GCD early, purposely clipping their duration by one tick so that you don't delay the rest of your rotation because of the heal (which could be a gain if it means getting an extra cast of an ability you would otherwise lose by delaying it)
The example change for WHM I've given, of a 15s Water skill and DOT rescaled to 12s, would be much the same. If you need to heal with a GCD on the exact same GCD as Dia being refreshed, or Water/Banish coming back up, you just move them down the fight timeline and cause a Glare to get replaced instead.
The only '1-2-3 combo' I'll ever execute on a healer, should 1-2-3 combos be given as the 'solution' by SE, is 1 - power down my PC, 2 - power down my monitor, 3 - go back to bed and power down myself for the night. Their addition would truly prove once and for all that SE has no clue what to do with healers (as if we weren't aware already) -
