As long as we get something to focus attention on to take the place of going for HQ+3's i'll be happy. It sounds like the "forbiden materia" will be difficult and specialized. Going for the ultimate HQ weapon + 2 materia's attached is the pinnacle of crafting. I REALLY hope that its truely a challenge to succeede in these synths and just success is enough. I should not have to craft the same item 1000000 times over to get my goal result. I rather have smart choices play the role in the items outcome, smart choices in both gear/tool/stats/skills.

If this is a general trend, then there will be no more "raw" materials going into finished item recipes. Right now some recipes are made much much easier by taking advantage of these +3 materials that are hunted or gathered and go directly into the recipe of a finished item. Your example of Acidic Secretions is one such, Branches or Logs used directly in recipes is another.
If EVERY ingredient in a finished item must be processed from "raw" materials, this will represent a noticeable step up of difficulty.
Steps would be:
1) Gather HQ raw materials
2) Process HQ raw materials into ingredients (many time, attempting to get HQ ingredients)
3) Process HQ ingredients into HQ finish item
Would be interesting to get feedback as to whether raw materials will be ingredients in finished item recipes come this revamp. -

This is the way I read it:
Only mats/ingredients are becoming NQ/HQ. Final products can still be +1+2+3 by this procedure:
Taking a HQ gear (sword+1) and combining it with another item will turn it into a sword+2 and so on by means of a higher level recipe.
I could be wrong, but again that's just the way I read it. Based on what he said here:

For example, a rank 22 Iron Pickaxe is upgraded to a r32 Polished Iron Pickaxe, which is upgraded to a r37 Dodotail Pickaxe. Here, the ranks are increasing, but perhaps the developers are adding upgrade options that keep the rank of the item the same, but turn it into a new, but better, item.Quote:

I'd just like to comment that, once again, Yoshi-P is rewarding my faith in his ability to "get it". Sometimes it seems like any change at all will be loudly opposed (just look at this thread), but he explained the reasoning really well. I tried to explain my reasons for my problems with the current crafting system in another thread, but it took about twice as long and wasn't as wide ranging as that one. In any case, I'm quite looking forward to the new system.
If I have a hope, it's that the system takes skill into account more. I mean skill in both your crafting skill level and your skill as a player. Even doing things just right there still seems to be way too much random chance involved in the crafting as it is. Especially considering how hard it will be to get 100% HQ ingredients for an HQ equipment pieces after this change (which is a change I definitely support, it makes sense and will make HQ stuff appropriately hard to get), it'd break my heart to lose all those pieces because the RNG decided to screw me over that time.
Still, overall I can't wait for the changes in crafting. -
