5678 roulette as a PLD ytd, got Pagl'than.

Fast forward to last boss AST warms the floor after eating Khan Rai without moving out. Then two other follows leaving me to solo last boss from 40% because they kept eating vuln stacks: It wasn't a pleasant one despite being 'fulfilling'. Having to break optimal rotation sometimes just to use more Riot Blade for more Clememecy was a fun choice to made at least.

The entire run took about 29m

So I didn't realize it was actually possible to wipe to the first boss of the 89 dungeon. Our AST ate too much vuln stack along with my co-dps DRG about 45% into the fight. Sadly there's only so much a BLM and a DRK can do.

AST never touched Macrocosmos, Horoscope, Neutral Sect, Celestial Intersection, Exalation, or the dome the entire run though. Just...spamga Helios, Aspected Helios and Benefic 1 and 2.

Not really a Duty Finder story, but...

Last week (I think??) I was in Southern Front, and it was night time in-game. Suddenly, someone shouts for help, saying that their friend had been one shot by a mob, and that they were afraid to move. Both of them were in an area where a story quest takes you, and where super strong mobs spawn at night. I figured I'd go and try to help. When I arrived, there were like 5 or 6 other people there also to help. Someone made mention that we can get pass the mobs if we walked instead of running, which surprised the person that did the original shout. So this little group of six or seven people all of us go into the area, which is kind of a small labyrinth to look for their friend, so they'd feel more safe and so their friend didn't have to release. Someone in the party accidentally ran and got one-shot, but because there we were in a group, we were able to just rez him. We split a bit, and someone finally found the friend and got him up, and the same way we came in, the escort walked out of the labyrinth.

It was a really weird and fun experience that would never have happened if not for the unique circumstances that Bozja provided, and we need more stuff like this in FFXIV.

Trying to learn Sage. I *hate* jobs starting at such a high level, especially ith how horrid (20-30 minutes just for the "good" levels) PotD is.

Try to tell the team. Before I can finish typing tank has already started pulling wall to wall. One of two BRDs kept standing in AoE.

Wipe on trash before first boss.

Try it again. Start typing again. No check to see what caused a problem already pulling wall to wall.

I was a tank first. I DPS now. I still tank sometimes. I'm not a bad SCH healer at all. But man people need to slow down sometimes. It was one of the few times I just left a dungeon, just logged off after.

Double checked to make sure no one was a sprout or doing the dungeon for the first time of course. But man I couldn't even get in a word to say I was new to the class, had no experience with it, I would appreciate taking it slow (and I had watched guides). Heck by the time I looked up from typing first two packs were already eating the tank.

well, why dont you start with a low lvl dungeon with only the first few skills in your bar and work yourself up? nobody says you have to go for a lvl 70 duty right after getting your job stone with three bars full of unkown skills

Oh I’ve done practice. I do get annoyed at the level 50 as two key skills are disabled and it becomes a basic healer (specifically: no AOE heal just a degen, and the shielding is down).

I can *absolutely* heal 60-70s. I’m just a bit slow. I may just ratchet it up staring at, say, 57 or so and ending at my current level.

I prefer SCH so much as Eos saves my bacon and I love the toolkit far more… it’s just Sage has funnels and I need to be able to say “Fly my fangs!”

It is possible to try it out and get used to it via fates at 70+ or go into a dungeon with trusts. If you're doing the trust route, you can pull as you please. However going in with actual players is normally the best teacher. Gotta learn your kit somehow when the tank goes balls-to-the-walls on pulls.

I can't help but be grinning from ear to ear as I write this.

So a while ago I posted about a garbage SCH that was spamming Physick on me in Bardam's Mettle while I was on an alt leveling their DRK and was incredibly rude to me. Well earlier I finally got sick of constantly getting CT so I force-queued the Nier raids, and I get Breach to pop. I'm on SGE, and my co-heal ends up being a WHM. Cool, assuming people can do mechanics, we should be fine with my E X T R A T H I C C shields.

As we're waiting for the gate to drop, comments about people rarely getting Breach or those hoping for Nier but not something this difficult. We move onto the first boss, and eventually he gets to Light Leap. For those not in the know, this attack has two proximity markers that, the closer you are to it, the more damage you take to the point of being a OHKO, and the further away you are from it the less damage you take.

I see an extremely familiar name not make the mechanic and immediately eat dirt. Oh my god I realized, it's the nitwit I had a few months prior in Bardam's on the same exact bloody alt. What were the chances? And they made it to not only 90 on each healer, but they were on WHM to boot, the easiest healer you can't screw up on.

For a good chunk of the raid said garbage healer was failing a decent amount of mechanics, and dying several times. Their co-healer was unfortunately resigned to carrying their party, as I could see the nitwit really not doing much at all. No Raising, maybe some damage/dots, and running about. Their group also had three near wipes on Red Girl: one to the first Recreate Meteor, second was to failing their hacking minigame section, and third was to the infamous Double Recreate Meteor. Honorable mentions were the double tankbusters that came after her clones.

Due to my shielding, my party barely took any damage for a good chunk of the raid. It at least helped that most of my party followed me for safety. If that bunboy complained, I couldn't hear them at all in alliance chat due to good ol' blacklisting them a while back.

Karma's a b*tch, and it feels great to see someone like them not learn anything at all and suffer for their poor attitude and unwillingness to learn.

Oh boy!
I just got out of Temple of the Fist, and... while I may make a case for Physick as a desperate last resort if you've literally burned everything else, the SCH I got was using only three abilities. Aldo (sometimes), Succor, and an INSANE amount of Physicks. No Sacred Soil, no Excog, no Aetherpact and no Lustrate. I saw Two stacks of Aetherflow on their bar just... there, staring into eternity. I tried to tell them, but they didn't answer so.. egh. Thank Hydaelyn for Clemency.

On a funnier note, I was half asleep the other night and I got Lapis. 2nd boss hits tank and one DPS with Doom.

3 seconds pass and in my mind I'm like "Does this healer not know they can Esuna that Doom??.."

3 seconds pass...

I'm playing with my partner at the moment. An old MMORPG regular, but hasn't set foot in FFXIV for a long time. It's... refreshing, playing with someone who's rediscovering things. It's also a reminder that, sometimes, we're so used to certain things that we forget they're not as intuitive for newcomers (/ or, as here, those who've taken very long breaks).

In short, I'm trying to find dungeons that I've really enjoyed, or that have impressed me by their visual design (The vault) to get him used to the game again in a fun way. Problem: certain mechanics, which already don't do much damage for a highly-stuffed group, don't even appear any more because the groups do too much damage. The fact that bosses melt away very quickly is also a concern, as the perceived threat is inevitably lower. We were chatting about this with the other members of the dungeon... And they kindly suggested making some autoattacks phases, so that the length of the bosses would be closer to what they should be with a group of young sprouts.

Okay, it's artificial, but it's still a crutch to reproduce the real "feel" of the dungeon. But the intention was really nice, and it actually allowed him to enjoy the fight more without feeling rushed. Thank you, kind strangers.

Got accused of cheating in Cutter's Cry because I was the only one who kept clearing the debuff on the sandworm boss. Because I was on bard and I could cleanse it myself with Warden's Paeon, while the healer never bothered to use Esuna. But I guess using my own utilities to save my own hide is bad or something.

I did! They laughed it off, but I still felt really dumb. It really was just a moment of "Wait, I AM the one with the Esuna wtf am I doing"

First duty after work. What can possibly happen right..?
Trials Roulette -> Me as whm, co-heal had the dc icon right from the get go. I was like "co-heal dc" in chat, it was either not seen or ignored.
We started and i was forced to solo heal with a backup summoner in terms of rezzing for a good while. Yeah co-heal came back and we struggled our way through the fight. Even with two healers it was extremely difficult to handle.
Plus side, we did not wipe. But man... i am done for the week now ^^"

That moment when you queue into leveling roulette for your daily tomes as a WHM.

That moment when you're pleasantly surprised at getting the 87 dungeon.

That moment when you realize it's a WAR NIN MCH comp for the rest of your party.

That moment when you have hope that it'll be super fast and lots of NYOOM.

That moment on the first pull you realize that is not the case as things are dying unusually slow.

That moment when you see 4 tankbusters go out from the first boss, and you are forced to break out your funny calculator.

That moment when you realize the WAR never refreshes Surging Tempest after packs going onto bosses. Only refresh comes from him aoeing.

That moment when you realize you're at the final boss and this has taken far too long.

That moment when you finally clear the boss because dps are doing...something...check the funny calculator and realize you were top dps the entire dungeon...as a healer.

I need migraine meds.

Going as GNB into lvl roulette and get Sirensong. First boss goes down fine, but on the trash before the second boss, WHM seems more interested in keeping the Skipper stoned than healing me, so I die. Proceeds otherwise fine until the final boss, where WHM again decides to be a green DPS instead of a healer, twice. We call them out and they blame the rest of us instead and now refuse to do anything at all, leading to another wipe.

Kick, new healer, finish.

Oh, and the green DPS had all jobs at 90.

Plopped into The Aitiascope on my Scholar in roulette. It was a LONG one. We had a Bard and a Machinist for DPS, and one of them was a first-timer. Every fight took forever, due to low damage output -- which definitely sucked, but that's not why I have come here before you today.

No, it was the tank. They did single group pulls for the first two thirds of the dungeon. They seemed to have a few issues gathering mobs and holding aggro from time to time. I don't think they knew how to do AoE or something, because on that early encounter with the stationary ghosts they all just stayed focused on me until they died.

I checked their gear, and saw they were wearing a mix of leveling attire, around level 83 and 85 type of stuff. Which means they elected to NOT pick up the FREE level 89 weapon and full set of gear available in Sharlayan.

I will give you three guesses as to whether or not this tank was A MENTOR.

Keep in mind, that finishing that dungeon is required to gain access to the vendor who "sells" the 89/90 gear. So the new player has a great, legit excuse for their gear. But you were talking more about the Mentor tank, who has no such excuse. I will also refrain from commenting on low damage, though its not a great sign.

Got Vanaspati in levelling roulette as sage. GNB would bolide on cooldown even at near-full HP. The first time I thought it was a fat-finger, but nope. Two more times. Once during the final boss when it was just auto-attacking, wasn't even a tank buster.

In a Classical 2 prog party for P12S. We're waiting for a healer for a while, finally one joins and we hop in.

His HP looks low, even with food, so I quickly check his gear. Mix of 24-man and tomestone gear on the left, tomestone and dungeon accessories on the right. Before I can ask if he's wearing the right gear, he asks:

"macro?"

Someone links him the raidplans (nobody uses macros for P12S). Despite the red flags, we pull. He proceeds to run in circles in the middle of the arena for the first mechanic, baiting a laser then dying to wings. We reset, and he immidiately bails with the immortal parting words:

"ok sorry
its to long"

I sort of admire the misplaced optimism that he thought he could just wing it by following the raidplan during the pull.

I have to remind people that boosting jobs are still a bad idea.

Roll leveling roulette on an alt drg, get Mt. Gulg. Got WAR AST BRD for the rest of the party, and it looks like the BRD is using this dungeon to level. Cool.

WAR does the big john wall run on the first hallway up to the first boss, AST doesn't seem to struggle much with keeping up the tank, but struggles to dodge aoes and nearly dies several times on trash.

First boss the AST dies to dodgeable aoes.

Trash pulls the AST eats a lot of damage but lives.

Second boss AST eats more dodgeable aoes and dies.

Trash pulls to third boss the AST still eats a lot of damage but lives.

WAR is still sustaining themselves on the big johnson pulls.

Last wall boss before final boss the AST dies yet again, apologizes since 'they're still learning the class'.

My man. You can still learn a class, you can still learn to optimize a job; but learning to dodge aoes, since you've got several jobs leveled, shouldn't be anything new to you. Something BIG AND BRIGHT AND ORANGE THAT KILLS YOU should be the telling sign that you shouldn't be standing in that.

Please don't boost.

My mistake then, I guess I misremembered and thought you got access to the gear vendor in MSQ before the dungeon. It would make more sense to catch players up that way, since you are going into a level 89 dungeon and then the trial right after that. I guess I'm just used to having alts hit 89 and being able to immediately gear up. Now that I think about it, the 85 gear they had on isn't that unusual for leveling an alt since what you get is dependent on luck with dungeon drops -- but the 83 pieces means they didn't even bother to get the poetics tomestone gear from Shadowbringers, right?

In any case, seeing that mentor tag is the only reason I gave any of this a second thought. I purposely didn't mention they were a mentor until the very end of my post so it would be sort of a "punchline," but maybe it should have been my first point because it establishes my entire frame of mind for why I'm even talking about the dungeon run at all. Any other rando not pulling much or playing poorly I wouldn't have cared. The low DPS I don't even really care about either, and I didn't bother checking the DPS players' gear. It's more that it gave me AMPLE opportunity to observe and scrutinize the tank as I did nothing but spam AoE for what felt like three or four minutes at a time. Oh, and if anyone's wondering, I kept all these thoughts to myself and did not give them a hard time about it. Rather, we actually chatted and joked around quite a bit (again, we had lots of time for it). I hate when people are rude to their party members, start a fight, and then post chat logs on the internet to brag about "Hey, look how I won this argument on the internet!"

So I forgot that Inner Release prevents knockback.

Queue myself on an alt getting some tomestones with a friend, I go on WAR because unga-bunga, he goes on SGE to cover for some incompetence, and he puts us into trials. Insta-pop and we get good ol' Golbez.

First towers go fine, it's the second set that I had Inner Release for unga-bunga on because I forgot a good chunk of the fight. 3 DPS die because I didn't realize towers were up and we were short 1 person in a 3-person tower, along with my co-tank and his co-healer.

My friend: Hitting LB3!

Meteors come down shortly after, and he does not get the cast off but the lb bar gets consumed, everyone else is dead except for me. Golbez looks like he wants to go a few more rounds since he was sitting at 20%. I make the decision and just jump to reset.

Knockback prevention didn't kill anybody, but it sure as heck did to this group.

So last night my friend asked me if I wanted to do a few roulettes with him since he was going PLD. Me being sick and trying to recover but trying to keep upright to help drain the icky from my sinuses, I said sure.

Hoo boy I regretted my decision.

He throws us into leveling, and it's instapop since I'm on WHM. We get Tower of Babil, and get a RPR and BLM as our dps. Unfortunately for me, I recognized the name of the BLM since I had them in Ktisis Hyperboria as MCH. I pointed this out to my friend in discord chat. At first he didn't think it was true. After the first boss he realized I was right and said we'll probably be seeing the second boss cycle through mechanics at least twice. Spoilers: we did since the blm was doing...things.

Last time I was top dps in the 87 dungeon as WHM. This time, after going through the dungeon and throwing on the funny calculator after the first boss to see if my suspicions were correct, I ended up being the top dps again as WHM.

RPR was indeed new and vanilla to the dungeon. BLM was not...and casting an awful lot of Fire 1s, High Fires, Fire 3s, and using Transpose to swap elements. Funny thing was they were using Blizzard 1, High Blizzard, but no Blizzard 3.

Such intense mental pain we had from seeing the BLM's casts, and since they wouldn't roll on loot, we could not kick. I wanted to say something to them, but I still remember that one time I gave advice to someone and was promptly told to f*ck off and die, so you can imagine my hesitation.

Now imagine my pain when I checked their lodestone this morning to see that they actually completed the 60 and 70 BLM quests. Meaning this mother ducker didn't even have Fire 4 or Foul at 83.

If that BLM ever reads this, holy heck man don't make Shatotto that upset. Learn how2blm and learn your rotations. Heck, learn how to actually play the rest of your jobs please I beg of you.

Not everyone can be as amazing as you and know how to play every job well right away.

They're at least level 87, though- that's plenty of time to learn your class. Especially if it's one that starts at level 1

I was just about to say that. I don't think this is really them saying bad things but more them asking, "Did you read your abilities/did you do your job quests?".

On the other hand though, if they bought a boost then getting a new BLM at 80 and learning rotation + dungeon patterns and positioning's + player interactions then I can see how it can be daunting + (insert random things that I forgot about here).

Then again, this is a forum post that is for talking about cringe/harder-than-should-be content because of party interactions/player choices sooo.

I'm not amazing but at least I read my tooltips and practice outside of dungeons. It's not hard to look at your kit and go 'hm, I probably have a good use for that.' Googling job guides is also a thing. If they were making an effort to cast Fire 4s and Despairs, I would have given them the benefit of doubt, but they never even did those.

Compared to WHM, which has at most 5 dps skills in their kit, BLMs should be putting out a lot more than what I witnessed yesterday.

They've also had 83 levels to practice blm. 83. Levels. At that point I expect people to have some sort of basic understanding of their job. The person more than likely did not boost either, as they had the basic lvl 80 crafted gear on, and had the occasional use of Ley Lines.

They also had nearly everything at 90 save for RDM at 51 and BLM at 86 as of this morning.

I'd much rather go in knowing what a dungeon entails/knowing my kit than be an utter deadweight to the rest of my group. This is a team game, is it not?

The quests do nothing to teach proper play, some of the spell interactions arent immediately obvious, and the correct rotation changes every 10 levels or so. Plenty of reasons not to be "ideal" while leveling. Yup. But we're talking about the level 83 dungeon and a player who stopped doing their class quests before level 60(if i understand correctly anyway). The simplified BLM single target rotation(if you ever needed to explain it to someone who might only be half paying attention) is do everything you can to cast as many Fire 4 spells as possible. It has a great rhythm that feels terrific when you get into it, and i could go into much greater detail. But the point is, do as much F4 as you can. Learn how to use your other spells to F4 more. Life begins with F4, and it is the last thing my enemies see as the final shreds of vitality are scorched from their charred husks. Do ALL the splosions!!!

Oh. But this guy is missing that spell. And... we know they didnt boost because boosting sets the job quests to complete. Plus unless Cin is skipping details, they werent AoEing correctly either. Cause the AoE version includes as much Flare as you can fit, and Flare wasnt listed above.

Oh that hurts to look at. And not in a good, burning my enemies to death kind of way. And while i dont feel like crunching any numbers, but even for doing it wrong that looks like doing it wrong. This certainly isnt a case where an extra wrong turns into a right. Im honestly surprised there arent a couple dozen Scathes in there for bad measure. So your guess is hardcasting Scatter... ill guess ignoring melee combo. I was never the best RDM and wouldnt pretend to advise someone past the basics(cast short to proc long, etc), but i can imagine a few ways to do it extra wrong.

Right side.. look, I know it's not contributing as much, but, c'mon. Level 29 earring and ring, second ring is still the Brand New level 30. Weapon isn't even level 50.

And the entire party jumps down my through for recognizing that?????

Look, I know LotA is simple, frankly probably nothing would've changed with better gear. But getting shit on because I recognized some terribly low gear?

Last night i wanted to tackle Endwalker Garuda EX again (named it like that for spoiler reasons). Last time i went in it was a shitshow as my main job whm. Last night.. i broke the curse with my party. Cleared the EX trial for the first time ever.
I still died a lot during the chainpulls but overall i learned to understand the clusterfuck of mechanics a bit better.
Really really happy with that as i don't usually do EX trials

Unless they are terribly gil poor, they can buy crafted gear on the MB that would be better then what they had. Not really much excuse there.

Tbf, I wouldn't rule out free trial player, entirely possible. And sure, fine, if that's the case and they're doing nothing but MSQ, it's possible they've managed to accumulate fuckall gear.

But don't make that our problem, go put in some effort to find/make some gear. There's dozens of skipped sidequests along the way you could've done to upgrade that gear, without needing poetics, gil, or even market board access.

Queuing for something when you know your gear is that far behind is just plain rude.

Lvl 89 Duty. 20% Echoes because of multiple wype, still can't kill it. Why ?

Healer staying in front of the boss, eating the TB with me (Never stand with a Tank, that's a basic rules.)

Healer trying to play with destroyed stuff. 0 Stat, killed by anything.

DPS didn't care about mecanics, keeps getting hit by pretty much anything the boss throw at you.

0 Communication through the fight.

Looks like a bunch of player using the level 80 skip all teamed together, while not understanding what killed them AT ALL. (They even admitted they didn't know what killed them.)

Eyes must be on the boss, not on your skill bar. Thank you.

So a few of my friends have been trying to clear EO again for some time. We're still stuck on the floor 90 boss fight. There's just too many aoes going off while the lasers are happening, and we're eating vuln stacks as a result. Sometimes I wish the boss didn't poop out so many aoes during that segment.

I wish there was a way to practice that boss without having to go through that entire slog of 21-90 just to get back to them when we wipe.
