Oh god.. did you survive?? That's not even the eye boss, which tends to kill the most people.
I mean... if I was with a static and we were doing SVG/Ultimate and my tank was like "Hey, can we do things this way?" then it makes sense to find what works best for the party... but for some leveling dungeon with a PUG? lol
I just laughed in the end.
I love the chaos happening in the Ivalice raids. Sounds like you had a wonderful time lol
Recently (roughly the last 2 months) in my experience these first 3 enemies have been more lethal than the bosses XD
The situation in my screenshot was caused by the alliance lacking the competence (me included) to interrupt their Voice of.. casts lol.
Getting frozen + getting cleaved makes short work of squishy dps, healers and 2 (squishy) tanks too, apparently lol
The rest of the instance was a non meme normal WoD run. We had some casualties during all the bosses but overall nothing major happening.
These casualties were mostly caused by Eyeboss Death gaze, the dragonfly adds that tether to people during 5-headed Dragon, people jumping into purple goo before getting shrunk during the Cerberus, you know the usual. Either people didn't know/didn't remember or simply didn't care since it's old content, can't tell.
carried our alliance's tank through lota today. felt bad man. i was the one tanking our vassago as a dnc, as when they eventually teleported in to the arena, they just... stood there and did nothing. healers did great keeping me up, but i was... very confused. tried to kick them in this bright shining moment between behemoth and soup grandpa (loot had been rolled on and i don't think our alliance had grabbed behemoth's b chest in the hopes they'd get kicked without the hassle of waiting on loot?). stood there for a minute with them dead and viewing cutscene, what's his nuts got pulled so i guess people got busy and didn't accept the vote kick i initiated, we downed him before he got 2nd ancient flare off and our tank still hadn't revived or anything.
didn't feel good that they got through it like that. i know lota/ct raids in general are faceroll, but even more reason to go all in so they can get done asap. at least that's my feeling on the matter.
This type of talk reminds me of a tank I met in stone vigil very recently. Had a real big mouth and a real small brain, acting like they know better. Said the same type of things , calling ppl stupid, telling them to stfu cuz they don't know what they're talking about, all while playing in the most foolish manner you could imagine. I was on my newest alt, so they had no idea they were talking to someone who has alts leveled far beyond that of their main. They refused to roll for loot , knowing that they were circumventing the kick that would've happened.
to the brd and dnc i just had in porta decumena -
bless you for always staying within range of my fairy and heals in general. i truly wish i could have commed everyone there; i did end up giving it to the tank because she parked her granite entombment on top of mine and when i made a (playfully!) snarky comment she replied "rocks strong, together" and i laughed my ass off and in general (except for obvs eye of the storm) she didn't twitch ultima around and even though we didn't have any positional users in our party comp, i still appreciate that a lot.
really, to see you guys spread but then run back in near me when you see me casting shields to mit the many raid-wides, or to get top off fairy heals or whispering dawned, seriously i appreciate it. and though i usually cringe upon seeing two ranged in porta (generalizations, i hate them, but generally speaking if you have two ranged, trash packs die really fast but bosses don't, it's not always true obviously), this run was as fast as it usually can get with no double ups on any of the first-phase primal mechanics (yes, i've seen doubles of those... a lot...). y'all also made use of the 1lb before the 3lb fill-up in phase 2, something i love to see.
Just experienced a pretty painful levelling roulette.
Team was:
Me: Ninja - new to the job and still learning my way around it
Friend: Scholar - new to the job and healing, still learning
Sprout playing Pugilist - appeared to be a genuine new player, and possibly a Xbox newbie as didn't participate in the chat at any point
Paladin Tank Mentor (with the Dragonsong Reprise Ultimate weapon)
We got The Tam-Tara Deepcroft - not difficult per-se... except the Tank kept doing massive pulls. First attempt - we wipe due to being overwhelmed by the huge pull. I request the Tank slows down a little and explain that the Healer is new to healing and the Pugilist appears to be new in general
No response, and tank charges off again, and does the same thing again. The team wipes again.
I again ask the Tank to cool it a little. No reply. We wipe again due to being overwhelmed.
Tank proceeds to blame us ("Ninja and Pugilist are too far behind"). Felt like pointing out that AOE options at that level were pretty much none but figured there was little point as Tank clearly didn't care. Healer points out that they can't keep up with healing us through such big pulls. No response.
We go again, with the tank again demonstrating no interest in changing his behaviour - we just about survive SuperTank's behaviour and finish the instance.
Tank says GG. No-one replies.
So-called Mentors like that are such a bore.
P12 is not a real duty
Fun fact if the mentor in question is reading this: PUG/MNK gets aoes the earliest at 26, caster/ranged gets theirs at 15ish, and healers get their aoes at 45. Everyone else gets theirs at 35-40. Only tanks have a singular aoe at lvl 6 or lvl 10. Having a DSR weapon means absolutely nothing at this point as there's a good chance it was PayPal'ed.
Tam-Tara is an 18-cap dungeon, so if the melee had the level, they would not be able to use it due to level sync. Level sync. LEVEL SYNC. That thing that brings your level down as if you could not get over that baby gate due to it being too high.
Large pulls can be done, but there has to be at least one ranged dps in the party to actually do it, otherwise you're just gonna have a slog of a time. At that point where the mentor was blaming the rest of the party I would just have called the mentor an idiot at not realizing what jobs have what at x level. Personally I would've just simply waited out loot timers and booted them if they were going to act like that.
Tam tara wall pull is dependent on the healer & the tank more than anything. All the healer needs to do is to make sure they -sprint- together with the tank. Any of their heals are roughly a ‘Benediction’ every GCD. This only becomes an issue if the healer lags behind (happens to inexperienced player who rarely take account of sprint’s existence) and the tank doesn’t have enough to bail themselves long enough until the healer catches up.
Ranged/AoE from DPS are a nice addition but they’re not needed. Tanks are putting out more collective damage than red DPSes in these situations it’s always a gain to pull this off… if the healer is up for the game. I always do this when I tank but only because I will kite the mobs in circle & packing some leftover potions from my last PotD ventures to sustain myself long enough until even a non-sprinting healer can catch up.
As noted though, our Healer was new to both Scholar and healing in general (I did recommend they try WHM first but she loves the book/fairy aesthetic).
We ran levelling as a means to practice more than anything - we were never going to get anything too heavy as, when we queued, she was level 31 and I was 39. She did really well to be fair to her - the pigheaded tank aside, she also (as noted) had a new, inexperienced, sprout (probably an Xbox player) to keep an eye on.
Looking at this through the eyes of experience doesn't really help in a situation such as the one I encountered.
Welcome to Burger King Mentor restaurant, what's your order ?
To be frank, I just happened to ran into a healer doing pull instead of letting the tank doing it. The tank was quite new to his job too. Please let people who don't know their job the time to adapt and learn ! Not everyone come in FFXIV with knowing EXACTLY what role has to do what. Please be patient with new player ffs.
To get back at you Carin, those people are clown full of themselves without the brain for self improvment. Sorry for what happened to you inside this dungeon, people need to know that patience is a virtue.
it's official - i can no longer accurately tell where to pre-position myself for cagnazzo's overhead bubbles. i have wiped parties twice recently, because i go smoothbrain at that particular time. my issue is two fold - one, i did it fine week one, so i don't really know what my issue is /now/, and two, sometimes it's just... really hard to see where they are, i dunno. my camera only pulls back so far and they seem to be on just the edge of that.
sorry to the two parties, by the way. i'm having bad days and should probably just put down ffxiv for a while. i wanted one thing in my life to relax with, but alas, i can't even play well anymore (including forgetting to kardia a tank for like, half of prae) and it's not like the community welcomes me (don't worry, i wouldn't welcome me either).
i'm reminded of two instances i had when i was still baby in this game though. one was stone vigil, at the time a bane to tanks and healers both. i was leveling drk. to my healer who was desperately trying to keep me up in that run years ago: you did fine. i forgot tank stance *the entire dungeon*. the one wipe we suffered, and your constant oom state, was entirely on my shoulders. i could not contact you at the time to apologize. you'll likely never read this or remember, and i was on a mau ra at the time, but... yeah. (recently had a run, taking an alt mnk through, the poor sch healer... the pld was pulling really large, awkward pulls, AND chain pulling... we wiped once but we managed to get this insane pull down to only two mobs so at least it wasn't a futile wipe or anything, but other than that, the sch just... kept up and didn't complain, i would have been raging honestly, stone vigil hurts no matter what gear you have to this day, and i don't think anybody would have been able to handle that pull we wiped on. i tried to keep mantra up and aoe as much as i could but mnk aoe is bad at that level).
second was my first run through kugane castle as a whm. i was loving whm. i felt powerful. and i didn't know how to use lilies. i didn't want to. no, cure 2 spam had saved me up to that point, and i was going to continue to do that, come hell or high water. i was foolish. the tank was kind. stopped after every pull when i inevitably would go oom to wait for my mp. while i appreciate the kindness, i wish someone would have told me how good lilies were. i promise that poor tank (and the rest of the party) - i exclusively use them nowadays, and almost never use anything but tetra/bene/lilies in the dungeons where i have those resources anymore, i'm that comfortable with them now. eventually i learned, so that's good, i guess.
So decided to help out a sprout in the linkshell I'm in for Chrysalis. Ended up getting these two...specimens from Behemoth.
Light tan is poopy attitude war tank, dark brown is their poopy attitude co-queue'er dancer.

To the two from Behemoth that are in the same free company: You had the opportunity to leave after our first wipe, and you chose to stay. If you don't want to get Chrysalis, then...don't queue up for roulettes?
Yeah, I hear you. I’m just clarifying the notion that wall pulling those lowbie dungeon doesn’t really necessitate the presence of ranged/DPSes with AoE as much as it does to having both tanks & healers who are ‘present’ & know what they’re doing. Healers are basically benediction bot via only 1 option to spam, moreso if you’re a SCH because Fairy’s constant Embrace cast which are overpowered in low levels. All that’s left is for them to not lag behind (since you wrote the tank calling out the DPS, I assume the healer did stick to the tank proper) . On the other hand, if packs are dying too slowly, the tanks will have to kite a little bit after their cooldown expires to slow down the auto attacks… which I was assuming that the tank didn’t attempt (my guess because I didn’t see this in your story).
Of course, it doesn’t help also since they behaved exactly how you described.
msq roulette: the first shorter one
dont know what it is recently but i get a lot of really bad people in roulette. this time one of them was propably a troll.
one was a lancer (yes on lvl 50) the only skill he used was piercing talon (i think thats how the ranged skill is called in english?)
we kicked that one as soon as possible after the first boss.
but there was no search for a replacement.
it was the dancer who's got the lead and also he didnt use any aoe attacks. just the dancers basic 1 2 combo.
so i told him after one and a half more pulls if he could pls search for a replacement and also use aoe attacks.... he left without saying anything. i liked that because you cant kick two people.
then a player joined but left instantly, how nice.
then another two joined, both mentors. one of them wrote how its always msq dungeons and more bla bla... the first one only tskes 15min though... and this one was already halfway done, you cant really ask for more if youre an unsupportiv mentor
50/60/70/80 roulette, tank in need, so i hop in on my main tank (gnb). whm returner, rpr, sprout blm watching cutscene. cool. i take it easy, everyone's doing a good job, we get through the first boss with no explanation other than me popping a 1 marker on the spears he summons and everyone follows and kills them. he goes down pretty quickly.
the blm stops in the next hallway after a few pulls to ask why we ignore the standards. everyone pauses, the reaper and i explain that it's just not worthwhile (no exp, high defense, high health, and all you have to do is pull the enemies out of the puddle so they aren't buffed anymore) and we go on. i find it cute such a question was asked, and so with that in mind, i do stop to explain the totem mechanic on the second boss. it was handled 100% perfectly, with the sprout blm helping to pick up the damage boosting ones along with the reaper when they were up.
final boss, i ask the healer if they know what to do with the doom, explain it when they say no, and it was handled wonderfully. they did go oom (and to be fair, it is a pretty big, early healer check - what with all the curing to dispel doom and the esuna'ing you have to do; he was maybe overusing cure 3, but not in a way that made me think he thought it was better than cure 2, because he never used it if only i was taking damage) and the blm, though he did get hit a few times by the massive cleave, did stack up on the boss's butt from then on and worked really hard to dodge. the idols are taken down quickly, as are the adds, otherwise the standards are ignored and we finish and i tell them they did a great job (because they did) and tell them to enjoy the rest of the game; the reaper thanks me for giving explanations and i thanked them for helping out too. walked out with 3 comms (and one of those instances where i wished i could give everyone one - i did end up giving mine to the blm) and a pleasant feeling of what the community used to be like.
I really wish some people weren't beyond help.
Those hardcasted verthunders during combat hurt my soul. This is more common to witness than I'd like.
Sometimes I wonder about people during the patch lulls.
Ran alliance roulette earlier, got LoTA on an alt that needed their pld leveled. I typically keep my tank stance off unless it's adds. We eventually make our way to the Vassagos and both the ast and whm let me die to the poison dot and autos while standing there doing...something. I thought it was typical dps mentality until I look at the ast's search comment:
"I know your hp is low...but did you die? XD"
Why yes, yes I did die. It's why the Vassagos immediately went after to munch on the dps' face and the whm was surprisingly instant on the raise.
Then I throw myself into leveling and get Dzemael Darkhold. I can at least do the huge hallway pull on the first part, which is nice.
What wasn't nice was the Cryptlurker/possibly boosted WHM I got wearing some quite expensive Bahamut healer glam spamming Cure 1 on me, and fishing for Freecure. Not a single bit of dps was had from them. Not even a single Aero the entire dungeon.
Being a healer isn't that hard, y'all. You have more than one button, you have a pair of eyes, you should be able to do at least one thing right. And people wonder why my faith in randoms is mostly dead.
At least you didn't get the tank I got in Praetorium who managed to die on Nero by slacking inside the thunder. 6 Years into the game, and it's the first time I see a player of any role die inside that... And yes, the healer stopped healing him because the tank didn't gave a sh*t about what we were saying. Did I mention that guy was just smashing random button and I was tanking adds as a summoner instead of him ?
So Cincierta, you say people got a pair of eyes, which is true. But remember that they are too lazy to actually read even their spells.
I have to remember some people don't have more than one braincell between their ears. Some time ago I had a whm that somehow died to Nero in that instance when I replaced a tank. That was the one where the blm was wearing a few pieces of glam gear to 'give the dungeon more of a challenge' when all it did was drag it on longer for the rest of us.
Smashing random buttons? Jack missed Rage of Halone.
Had a dancer in Void Ark complaining on the last boss about people not doing mechanics. Then I reminded them they hadn't picked a dancer partner through the entire dungeon.
That time when you actually get Orbonne in alliance roulette and are excited that it isn't something from snoozefest CT. Yay!
That time where you get 2 dancers who half the time don't bother with Standard Step and use Devilment naked.
That time where you're on whm and end up doing 95% of the healing for your party because your co-healer sage is relying on you to pick up their slack. This leads to people dying an awful lot during mechanics.
That time when not only your co-healer sage screws up mechanics or doesn't pay attention/dies, but all of your dps and occasionally your tank doesn't bother to pay attention to mechanics. That 54 vuln pickup game isn't doing itself apparently.
That time where you're spending half of your time scraping people off the ground because of the aforementioned above.
That time where you Rescue people out of mechanics only for them to go back into them and play more of the 54 vuln pickup.
That time where you finally clear and only get a singular comm for the backbreaking carry.
I think I'll just go back to redecorating my FC's hall.
It's indeed the gravest crime that some people play the game sub optimally and might extend a run by a couple minutes.
there is suboptimaly and then there are lazyness, respectlessness and stupidity.
>I actually love this. When the co-healer is bad, I almost need to do things and not fall asleep. This is nice.Quote:

Trial roulette on my white mage alt. Got Shinryu. At least four of the other people were first-timers. No summoners or red mages. You'll see why I mention that in a moment.
So, first pull, six out of eight players immediately die to Tidal Wave. Whoops.
Second pull, only three people get washed away (including the other healer, because of course). I start raising, we manage to drag our way through the add phase. Haven't seen multiple waves of adds up together in a long time. Four people fail the ATE and eat the floor, one more gets bowled off by the following dive bomb. Back to raise spam. Finally everyone's up again, a DPS hits the LB3.....then six people slide off during Diamond Dust, and a stack marker finishes the last two of us off.
Third pull. We take a minute while a couple of people ask about mechanics before going again. Only one death to Tidal Wave. Progress! While it's still a little rough (I guess not standing under the tail is hard), we manage to pull through with only two breakable platform sections left. I make a crack about how I need a new Raise button.
And that's how I got seven comms.
Today I learned that bosses in Rabanstrae still have (some) teeth even 2 expansions later.

Got Sastasha Hard (yay! I never get that one) in roulette. No one is new, everyone is in lvl 90 gear. Tank pulls one group at a time, healer stands there doing nothing not even drawing their weapon until tank needs a heal, blm's rotation did not include a single aoe and consisted of randomly hitting ice and fire, sometimes even running out of MP and then just standing there waiting on tics until their mp was enough to cast another FIRE, then repeating. The boss was more of them same.
After the absurdly long trek to the first boss and the even more absurdly long time it took to defeat it, I ate the 30 minutes and noped out, cause the rest of the dungeon was def going to take more than 30 mins. If they were not all from different servers I would have said it was a premade group trying to troll randoms.
Oh yes. Especially these ones, as this part of the raid seems to popp a bit less than the others, and people don't remember these bosses.
... Special mention, however, to the Orbonne monastery and the last boss; who leaves 3/4 of the people on the ground after the phase where she summons different bosses from previous raids.
Today I learned that I still can't trust random tanks to do mechanics.
P12N on an alt trying to get another chest piece to upgrade her tanks, everything's going good so far until the boss gets to the platform removal phase. 2 platforms are left and our tank decides it's a great time to turn the boss to her side so that the cleaves HIT EVERYONE save for a tiny sliver of safety on the platform. Me and the two tanks are at her front, the rest of the party, including my co-healer, are on the double cleave side. 10 collective vuln stacks later between the five of them, the two tanks and I are the only survivors.
Someone tells me to hit healer lb3 and gets mad at me for not doing so. We did not have that up yet since we were sitting at 2 1/2 bars.
Needless to say we did not make the dps check that came right after. The tank's reasoning for turning the boss like that?
"I was trying to help the dps get positionals." *slow head turn*
We only had 1 RPR, the rest were SMNs.
Got Thaleia from AR Roulette. Tank dcs at 2nd boss. Somebody says to kick out the tank so that people won't get murdered later on by TB.
Me:"Ngl I kinda wanna see the TB roulette."
*me proceed on getting the TB and die.*
*BRD gets the 2nd one and die.*
Co-SCH was my friend, decides to help out in Eulogia. That somehow convinced people collectively to just not wait for tank replacement.
Both TBs targeted our SMN and both of us saved their a$$ twice. Was hilarious but fun as heck.
Oh yeah, that tank never returns. Hopefully they're doing alright.
Two words: Stone. Vigil. I don't know if this is true for anyone else, but I swear that dungeon is cursed for me.
I've had several bad experiences doing SV, but this one in particular sticks out in my mind: When I was leveling WHM, I got party'd with a tank who was still Marauder. No job stone, crummy gear, it was like they thought they were still 20 ._____.
I had no choice but to babysit them throughout the dungeon and if it weren't for my AoE heals, the DPS' would've been ignored. And- y'know- given their class icon is RIGHT THERE, I figured they'd be just as frustrated and understanding. But one of them actually got on my case for not casting Stone on the boss, nevermind the fact the tank would die if I targeted something else for a millisecond. Fortunately, the other DPS stood up for me and pointed that out, but yeah.
I'm hoping that tank learned and got their job stone after that, but good lord.
I don't remember that many experiences notable for anything crazy, but one comes to mind and it was back in Stormblood during leveling in The Aery. I was paired with a monk that was a... Forbidden Chakra monk. They were spamming Meditate until chakra full, and used the skill, then proceed to do the same again and again without any variation.
